You think? Why? It's like Welsh, the Basques, the Bretons,... It's
about guarding an identity. What's wrong with that?

  2. They already have.
Especially as it's a rather lovely language. (I don't think anyone can call
    Euskadi lovely, but hey.)

  3. That was tongue in cheek as her kids are bilingual. They go to a spanish
    school.

Nothing wrong with hanging onto the past if that's your thing, but in
Cataluña they're forcing it on the kids. Much like in Wales. In Cataluña
(correct me if I'm wrong Domènec) the new statute makes it illegal to
teach or even speak castellano in schools.

Anyawy, everyone's going to end up speaking English, so what the heck.

  4. Catalán sounds like shwushshwushshwushwush to me. But then I haven't
really tried to understand it. As for euskadi, I've never heard it, but
have you ever seen it written? Hell's bells! They have words 3 feet long
in 10pt type and it's all Ks and Ws. Totally unique as far as I can
tell. Makes for strange looking road signs.

    Paul Carmichael ha escrit:
Afraid to say, but false. Law states that Catalan is the "base
language" (llengua vehivular) for primary and secondary in public
schools, but Spanish is taught in Spanish as well. At the end of
secondary school in the university entry tests last year 34% of Catalan
students answered their exams in Spanish and the overall qualification
in Spanish of Catalan students was similar to that of the rest of
    Spanish students.

Honestly I am more concerned with porridgewog students being allowed to
    do exams in SMS jargon.
    English or Merkin? :p

  9. It's a bit like French with a Portugese accent. She offered helpfully.
Finland is as bad. Although Korea was the most mind shifting.

Israel's intresting until your mate shows up and tells you what all the
    squiggles mean.

I won't try bluffing next time either. At a security checkpoint outside
a shopping mall I was asked if I had any weapons. I gave the wrong
answer, which caused a raised eyebrow, I can tell you.
