Not the ideal weekend to take in the sights of Cornwall, it seems. Not the weekend to break your spectacles[1] in an hotel in Liskeard, either. Not the most enjoyable ride back this afternoon - the weatherproofing qualities of Messrs Daytona and Gericke were found a little wanting, it must be said. [1] Yes, again. I wore Linda's for the ride home. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/KH500A8/TS250C |_\_____/_| ..63642../..15196.../..3157./.19406 (>|_|_|<) TPPFATUICG#7 DIAABTCOD#9 YTC#4 PM#5 |__|_|__| BOTAFOT #70 BOTAFOF #09 two#11 WG* \ |^| / IbW#0 & KotIbW# BotTOS#6 GP#4 \|^|/ ANORAK#17 '^' RBR-Visited:11 Pts: 190 Miles: 580

Yes, on the Wing. It has its limits, weather-protection-wise.[1] Seven hours of torrential downpour and M-way spray exceed them. Curiously, Penzance - Carn Euny was bathed in glorious sunshine. i.e. about four miles of the A30. I need to return, too, there's no way I was walking 5 miles around the coastal path to Pentire Head, from Polzeath, especially in that weather. I imagine there's access to be had from the farm, but I was on the verge of loosing all the toys from the pram, when herself suggested forgetting the whole thing, and going home. So we did. [1] The Daytonas leak around the pleated instep section, and the Gericke suit let some dampness in therough the sleeves, and the belly area, but, seeing as the screen vent is jammed open, I can't really blame it. Plus, you get a soggy arse if the Wing's seat fills up with water. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/KH500A8/TS250C |_\_____/_| ..64299../..15196.../..3157./.19406 (>|_|_|<) TPPFATUICG#7 DIAABTCOD#9 YTC#4 PM#5 |__|_|__| BOTAFOT #70 BOTAFOF #09 two#11 WG* \ |^| / IbW#0 & KotIbW# BotTOS#6 GP#4 \|^|/ ANORAK#17 '^' RBR-Visited:13 Pts: 250 Miles:1237
No way, dude! So all these Wings on Ebag, where they categorise them as "cruisers", they're not kidding? I'm glad I've got a proper touring motorcycle. -- Platypus - (surreal) Triumph Trophy 1200 (The Incredible Hulk) VN800 Drifter (still for sale) R80RT (for sale - spares or repairs) Z200 (Fear the Distance Monster!) you want a nice Dainese dry-line jacket - mine's never let any water in even when it's been pissing it down on medium distance journeys.
I've had some water creep in around the waist, but I suspect that's come in over my leggings and under the jacket, iyswim, rather than through the lining of the jacket itself. It does feel a bit _damp_ when putting it back on, mind.
are you talking about the beige short jacket thing that you have that's the same as the one I have? That's not the one I was talking about above - I also have a long coat-style black Dainese jacket, and it's the absolutely bollocks - very warm, completely waterproof, plenty of handy pockets both inside and outside the waterproofing layer, removable thermal liner etc. Very good jacket all round. The beige one's good too, but I've not worn that for a proper soaking - only showers and light rain. It's been fine in those circumstances, though.
On Mon, 19 Apr 2004 09:49:26 +0100, darsy blathered on about: [of Dainese waterproof jackets] I've got something very similar which I bought about 18 months ago; Dainese something-or-other-bladdy-expensive (not the Atlas, the one it replaced, I think); removable thermal lining, GoreTex everywhere, loadsa pockets, pukka removable BackSpace protector, seatbelt-style buckle, ickle Ti Dainese emblems on the shoulders, etc. When I bought it, it was discounted and /still/ more expensive than my leathers and shortly after a little voice said I should have bought the Rukka stuff. However, I've since tried on the Rukka stuff and found it to be about the same as my Dainese only another £200... Mined ewe, I've been /utterly/ impressed by the performance, design and quality of my Hein Gericke Voyager GoreTex trews. Check back in a year to see if I'm still as pleased. -- | Wik -UKRMHRC#10- 2003 R1150GSA -DC#1 -'FOT#0 'FOF #39 - BOD#12 BOB#12 |# You don't believe me | "Experience is the worst teacher. |That the scenery | It always gives the test first |Could be a cold-blooded killer. | and the instruction afterward." ***** human response from wik at blueyonder dot co dot uk *****
Seriously, the sign on the Coast Path said "Pentire Head 5 miles", at which point, I said "sod this for a game of (wet) soldiers" It looks so obvious now. -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/KH500A8/TS250C |_\_____/_| ..64299../..15196.../..3157./.19406 (>|_|_|<) TPPFATUICG#7 DIAABTCOD#9 YTC#4 PM#5 |__|_|__| BOTAFOT #70 BOTAFOF #09 two#11 WG* \ |^| / IbW#0 & KotIbW# BotTOS#6 GP#4 \|^|/ ANORAK#17 '^' RBR-Visited:13 Pts: 250 Miles:1237
Sounds like a rerun of me at Fishguard last year. Have a £1 parking ready to give to the local yokel.
I will. PS Had any joy with # 01 or 39, yet? (Harlington and Nesscliffe) They're the only ones I've got no clue about, with exception of Applecross, though that should be obvious when "on site". -- | ___ Salad Dodger |/ \ _/_____\_ GL1500SEV/CBR1100XXX/KH500A8/TS250C |_\_____/_| ..64299../..15196.../..3157./.19406 (>|_|_|<) TPPFATUICG#7 DIAABTCOD#9 YTC#4 PM#5 |__|_|__| BOTAFOT #70 BOTAFOF #09 two#11 WG* \ |^| / IbW#0 & KotIbW# BotTOS#6 GP#4 \|^|/ ANORAK#17 '^' RBR-Visited:13 Pts: 250 Miles:1237
I went over to Harlington on Sunday and got absolutely drenched in the process. There is something obvious when you get there but it doesn't fit the clue as well as I'd like, to be confident its right. I have only given it half a tick and will revisit on a nicer day. Nesscliffe, I know nothing about. I will drop by on my way to North Wales in May and see if its obvious, otherwise I will have to revisit on my way back from Scotland later in the year after further research. #1 (Blackrod) is giving me a headache. I have about eight unconvincing candidates. I am going up there for a look in a couple weeks en route to a VFR club rally. I have got a clue or two for #32 (Amble by the Sea) but not pinned it down yet. I have found a photo of #42 (Newcastle) but not sure what in the picture is the landmark. I will visit the nearby TIC. I have been to #43 (Lower Brailes) but I am still a bit worried by the naming discrepancy. #47 (Aysgarth) I assume will be obvious when I get there, and there is a museum to ask at. #51 (Fiddes). Now then, which Fiddes would that be then? #68 (Wester Fodderletter). I am banking on the Tomintoul museum coming up with some info. Which just leave #63 (Applescross). I am still trying figure out what is meant by the ends of the coast road. I found a photo of something which looks like it fits the bill and so just need to find something similar at the other end. So all in all, still lots of head-scratching going on over here.
Seems a bit far away to be called nr Harlington? Oh yes. If it had said *nr* Blackrod I would be convinced. Not found any reference to it being an ex-mortuary though. I tried it out on foot and thought the going grippy enough, more grippy than the one I crossed in Wales a couples of years ago when the rear stepped out big time on the slime. That's choice one, but if it pans out there is another Fiddes further north to look at. Is that the paper map? I can seen a "Mon" at one end and nothing at the other on Streetmap..
gomez says... Harlington, Bedfordshire? If so, give the pixies a shout next time, we may be able to help. We live 2 villages away, about 3 miles from Harlington.
