Spock to the bridge, would this work

Hydrogen Generator Car Kit, would it actually do what it claims, I know
probably not the full 25% THEY say, but in theory.

Also if it does work could you then claim lower TAX and no congestion
charges as you are now driving a hybrid ?

Hmmm, looks rather Heath Robinson to me, and too many questions. How
does the engine management know about the extra fuel? (i.e. is the
change in exhaust gasses something the Lambda sensor will detect). How
safe is it? If a knobhead fits it badly and leaks hydrogen gas into a
hot engine bay, what happens (think Hindenberg).

Not forgetting the 'no such thing as a free lunch' bit. It still needs
chemical and energy conversion to create the hyrodrogen, and you have to
    buy ingredients for that too.

I'm not even sure about the bio-Diesel device either, you can only
really mix about 5% bio with fossil, as bio contains a lot of moisture,
and Diesels use the fuel to lubricate all the moving parts - and that's
even more important in modern direct injection diesels with their very
    high pressures.
No, it's not a hybrid, it's a 'dual fuel'. Hybrids have a mix of
internal combustion, and zero emission power (i.e. electric).

On a related note, a programme on TV this week said that internal
combustion petrol engines were only around 30% efficient - so maybe that
should be where the main research should be going to either get more
efficiency from engines, or design something that is far more efficient.

30% is really quite efficient in a power cycle. It could be more so if you
used a multi stage micro turbine genset and 'leccy motors. Too many vested
interests in the 4T market though.

Indeed so far as the electrolytic method is concerned.

Having experimented when I was a lad with the old foil milk bottle caps
in caustic soda trick I can confirm that generates Hydrogen, but having
to refuel your 'cell' frequently isn't exactly efficient, and how much
    does caustic soda cost?

Well in fact there have been many improvements in this field, which is
why most cars today generate twice[1] the power for half[1] the fuel
that they did 30 years ago. Lean burn engines were one notable
advance, and more recently direct petrol injection, using a
'stratified' charge, have moved things forward another level.

How else do you get a 3.6l, 300bhp 6-cyl engine returning close to
30mpg in overall running? Compare this with the 3.6l 250bhp 6-cyl
motor in the 1982 XJS I had some years back, which would average
around 18mpg in normal use, unless I actually used the power, which
would drop it to the low teens.

Snake oil can be quite useful, at least according to an old QI I
stumbled across last night. High in Omega3, apparently.

  14. It's all been done already, with ceramic pistons and liners. Problem is
the long-term reliability due to mechanical and lubrication concerns.
Ceramic engines knock out some very nice efficiencies, for about 20
    minutes (wild-arsed guest).

I've been watching developments in the turbine electric car hybrid arena
    for a while now.

No mention of mpg in this article on Jaguar's C-X75 hybrid with Bladon
Jets axial-flow turbine but some eye watering power and torque figures.
25,000 litres of air per minute air intake might be a show stopper though.

I'm sure I started looking at this after reading an article on an
Israeli company called ETV motors which claimed to produce a battery
(High5ive battery cell)which was much more efficient and had converted a
    Prius with a turbine.
Ah, yes here's the video including the roar of the turbine.

    Handy for pedestrian intervention.

While better batteries will be part of the show, making a fuel efficient
micro turbine is where it's at. So my money is on the company which already
    does.
