So I've been looking at the 400 Four which has been buried under dust
sheets in the furthest corner of the garage.

The "to do" list runs something like this:

    1. Replace weeping crankshaft oil gallery O-ring - done this weekend.

    2. Replace right-hand weeping fork seal. To do. Problem here was
possessing two brand new fork seals, one for a 400 Four and one for a
CD200, and forgetting which one was which. A quick call to D Silver
Esq, with the relevant part numbers, sorted that out.

    3. Put another bloody inner tube in the front tyre because the current
one seems porous - to do. I'll do that when I pull the front wheel out
to remove the right-hand fork leg.

    4. Suck teeth at the camchain tensioner. When I bought the bike, it was
seized (they all do that, sir) and I was able to free it by going in
through the sump, a dodge you won't find in any Honda manual. Right now
the engine's quiet, but I use the bike so little that it's two or three
years since it was adjusted so it might be seized again. We shall see.

    5. Sort out sticking float on whichever carb it is, that results in it
sometimes dribbling fuel when parked. Or just remember to turn off the
fuel tap every time. They all do that, sir.

    6. Liberally apply degreaser and hot water to remove the coating of
    WD40 applied last autumn.

    7. In view of (6) above, pay particular attention to state of front
    disc before riding.

If the weather for that weekend is fine, I might take it on the French
Run. Otherwise, of course, Chimay is a must. See Chimay posting, btw
