Sprint RS Mini Review

Had the whole day to myself, so took the trumpet out for a serious
    evaluation.

It's bloody quick compared to the old Zephyr (as you would expect),
very much more responsive, and not anywhere near as lardy in the
twisties, in fact my performance along the B4011 Thame to Bicester road
was very far removed from the usual "oh shit, there's a corner"
    situation I am used to.

It takes a lot more fuel too, I squeezed almost £21 worth in, whereas
the old Zephyr only ever swallows £13 max.

It's surprisingly comfortable, more so than I thought it would be, and
whilst not a real sportsbike, the single seat cowl and bellypan add to
the illusion quite nicely. Next on the list is a double bubble screen.

Called in to Onyertriumph and have arranged for the Triumph recall of
the dreaded plastic fuel connectors to be carried out in a couple of
weeks time. The chap advised that it should have been done 3 years
ago, and didn't seem too impressed at the prospect of having to do the
work, but heh ho. Once this is done I'll whip the tank off and fit
    some heated grips.

So, then went on to Hughenden M40 Triumph, where the prices of their 3
used Sprint RS's made me quite pleased with my own purchase. Ordered a
new air filter and oil filter from them, they seemed a bit friendlier
    than the other lot.

The bike does has a nasty habit of cutting out. It'll tick over quite
nicely, but if you blip the throttle the tick over dips to the stage
where it dies. I have been on the email to Chris at Road and Track in
Aylesbury and have arranged for a dyno run in a couple of weeks.
Unfortunately he can't remap the ECU, but it should give some clue as
to why it's happening (i.e. ECU map issues or a dead sensor somewhere).
If the map is shot to pieces my options are a Triumph remap, which are
not very good apparently, or I could dick around with a Tune Boy (ooh
err missus), or have a full fat Power Commander fitted and let Chris
build me a custom map. I'll have to see what the dyno run reveals
    before deciding what to do.

On the whole I like it very much though, so cheers Loz, you were right.

How does one acquire the latest map, is it a Triumph dealer only type
thing, or can one download and flash it oneself/

Also, does the Triumph race pipe release much more power, and is ity
    antisocially load?

    Cheers

  9. Hasn't the new air filter sorted that out?

Power commander. It's the only way ;-)

Not yet, the forum I've been on so far is a bit crap, so cheers for the
    suggestion.

If not, & a tune doesn't either, get the barometric pressure sensor
    checked.
Tune Boy does everything the Power Commander does, & a lot more
besides. For dyno work, you could do a LOT worse than Dynotech in
Tadley, near Basingstoke. They used to setup the bikes for the Speed
Triple Challenge (or some other Triumph single-make series), as well as
    the UKRM endurance bike.

I have a feeling it's likely to be a dicky sensor, my first thought was
the throttle position sensor (assuming it has one, I really must get a
    HBOL).
Hmm, cheers for that. Road and Track can't do anything to
manufacturer's ECU's, so I 'll bear Dynotech in mind in case it needs
tweaking. Either that or just get the Tune Boy.
