Where can I get stainless nuts & bolts? If not local to me, is there a website with pretty pictures so I can compare? It's probably in the FAQ but I can't be arsed. -- Ash ([:]) BOTAFOT#82 UKRMFBC#8 HMC#5 YFC#0(KotL) ETV1000 Caponord RD200 http://www.theredline.co.uk/ballistic "If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough." -- Mario Andretti
Also some at: http://www.inoxfasteners.co.uk/ I've used them before, good stuff. Don't know if they're cheaper/more expensive than elsewhere.
Check YP for a good Engineering Supply Merchant. I found one in Belfast, they kept a full range of stainless stuff for a 1/3 of the cost of these specialist jockeys.
mb was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever: Plus, the bloke wot runs it is very, very helpful indeed. I buy all the stainless fasteners I need from him.
Hi, Why is it more expensive to insure a bike whose logbook says "imported" than the same model/year/presumably spec of bike which isn't? This is an M-reg 1994 Suzuki RF900, bought brand new in Europe by a guy serving in the forces in Germany in 1994, who then brought it back to UK, kept it for several years, then sold it to another guy who kept it for several years, then died (not on the bike) and being friends of the family, we've got the job of selling the bike for the family. It's got UK headlamp, speedo and number plate. Our first potential new owner was put off when he checked out the insurance cost. For its potential new owner (45 year old bloke, living in Bedford, no motorcycle no-claims but has full motorbike licence, full no claims on his car) the TPFT price was 450 pounds with a 500 excess from Mitchells, though they told him if the bike had not been imported, the insurance would only have been 270. Why the difference in insurance cost for a bike which looks exactly the same spec as my hubby's UK RF900 of same year? Are there some invisible differences in spec? Any other insurance places we should try? Thanks.
Because of potential costs to repair it if parts aren't the same? Whilst the parts may be the same, given the small margins (apparently) made on motor insurance policies and the small numbers of this type of request (how many German supplied RF900s are there in the UK?) it's probably easier and cheaper to put people off than carry out the investigation.
Sue Rogers wrote: IME, there shouldn't be a difference. Most insurance companies that I've spoken to ask "Is it a model that is officially imported into the UK?" (or something similar) not whether the particular bike is an official import. BikeTeam seem OK, but to be honest the only way to really get the cheapest quote is to ring lots of places.
