    sounds like a good outcome

so let me get this right for only $1000 you got the 96 model

or is it for $1000 more than you paid for the 91 bike they gave you the
    96 model ?

    Good deal, in the end.

Are they going to let you know if they ever solve the problem with the other
one? Or is it going to be stolen and never seen again?

It's obviously been infected by Gremlins, and should by all rights
be buried at a roundabout[1]. However, because of the failure
of Western Reductionist Science to understand the gremlin
phenomena, it will instead be parted out and sold to thousands
of other unsuspecting CBR owners ...

The dealer sounds good though ... nice to hear a _good_ story
about a dealer for a change.

[1] It's crossroads for ghosts, roundabouts for gremlins.

  5. Well after 4 mechanics have look at my CBR 1000F 1991 bike no one can
figure out why it won't start. But there is some fantastic good news.

The bike had no warranty when I took it back to Causeway Motorcycles in Vic
Park. They said that they would fix it and all I had to pay for was the
parts. They replaced the battery, starter motor, lead, starter clutch and
after pulling the notor out, seperating the cases they couldn't figure out
why it wouldn't start . Then an experienced Honda mechanic looked at it and
he couldn't figure it out. Then one of WA's best mechanics looked at and
even went to the extreme of completely re-building the motor and making sure
every single part was right it still wouldn't start!

So now what thay have agreed to do is buy my bike back for what I paid for
it and I can buy a later model (96 Vs 91) CBR with 20,000 k's less for a
$1000. I do not have to pay a cent for parts and labour.

Considering that legally they didn't have to do nothing for me at all I find
this to be just excellent customer service. Most dealers would have told
you too bad. The whole time the bike was with them they also gave me a loan
    bike as well.

Also before I had the starting problems I was considering get WP springs,
gold valves, rear shock and braided lines. Again they offered to fit it all
for free and I just supplied the parts.

The new bike is so much better than the old. Gearbox is smoother. The
suspension is so compliant and engine so smooth that I find myself getting
over my head because I don't realise what speed I'm doing. Also there is no
noise at all from the cam chain tenshioner with is very most un-Honda like!
I can also see more than my elbows in the vibration free mirrors. I'm still
    unsure of the DCBS though.

So if you are after a good bike dealer go and see Dale at Causeway
    Motorcycles in Vic Park.

    Cheers
    Rob

Nah, he prefers to buy them in working condition and wreck them himself - best way to ensure the job is done right! :)

Point is, in bits, it will probably work fine in dozens of
other CBRs forever. It's just the sum total of those bits
    that dun work.

Bloody amazing story. This sounds like a dealer that would
be worth travelling interstate to deal with! I'm impressed,
    no, wait, I'm amazed!

  11. Are they going to let you know if they ever solve the problem with the
    other
I had just registered it (which they re-imbursed me for BTW!) so I would say
they will fix it up when they have spare time.

I said he should hand it to the apprentice and he doesn't graduate until he
    gets it working. *LOL*

Its a pity as other than the starting problem the old one was great. I got
a chance to have a look at then engine as it was being pulled down and there
was very little wear inside the engine at all. It still had 170psi
    compression across the range.

Noooooo! That's the Unknown Fault Theory Of Automotives, which
demands (due to its reductionist philosophy) that any problem
with a bike must be caused by a physical problem (wear,
misassembly, etc) with some unknwon part, and that reassembling
the unit will therefore cause the fault to go away.

While all this philosophy is fine, and everyone is entitled
to their own opinion, the simple fact is that automotive problems
are caused by Gremlins (autopathogenus bastardii), and while
Gremlins usually only inhabit a bike singly (for example your
starter motor problem) or in breeding pairs (a combination of
a mis-timed ignition and a loosened kickstart lever, forex)
they lay their eggs throughout the machine, and use of parts
from an infected machine risks spreading the infection further.
