You've presumably never ridden MX or Enduro.

I'm aware folk use jet washers for that, yes. A stiff brush and a hose
is still all you need for that anyway.

Stainless bushes, that seems a bit unusual to me. I'd have thought
phosphor bronze would be the material of choice?

Off-road bikes seem to survive the jet was experience very well. If I
relied on a hose and brush to clean the lad's YZ85 it would take hours.
TBF that may be because of the material they use to grade the track at
his usual practice course. If is allowed to dry it takes on the
    consistency of mortar.

  6. I'd have thought so, too.

Needle roller conversion would be cool.

Oh, the shafts. Ok. The Nylon will still wear quickly though, that's why
I got my nylon bushes replaced with phosphor bronze ones.

Lower friction, stiction and wear rates too, plus they're 2RS sealed.
All good. If you were sneaky, you could put a grease nipple in there to
keep everything nicely greased up, and to expell any trapped water.

You do?!? You're a very strange person. They may be designed to do a
better job of keeping water out of bearings, but that's because they're
likely to be ridden through deep water, not because people might want
    to jetwash them.

Incidentally, do you use people's names all the time when talking to
them in real life too, or is that just a text-based habit?

I think Krusty has the right of it. In any case, I quite often use a
pressure washer on my other bikes, particularly after a hillclimb in
foul weather at a venue with a grass paddock. Like other potentially
harmful tools, it's a question of using them correctly. The operative
word is 'blast'. I wouldn't blast around the wheel bearings on the road
bikes, but I do use it judiciously, at a suitable distance, to reach
some nooks and crannies in the nether regions (of the bikes!).

Unlike some people, I really don't enjoy cleaning bikes, as much as I do
    riding them.

Working on them is another matter. I spent a happy hour hand fettling a
new clutch lever on the YZ85 and fitting some Acerbis hand guards[1] on
Saturday. The fancy cold forged lever wasn't right for the 85, despite
being advertised on Ebay as such. I resisted the temptation to get
resort to the angle grinder, and some patience, a drill, hacksaw and
file did the trick. The hand guards also needed some cunning sleeves
made up to fit into the bars, as they turned out to be thin bore tubing
rather than the usual thick alloy Renthal type items.

[1] He did an 'endo' at 'the chateau' during the summer as a result of
not spotting a small tree stump and took the ball end off the lever.

I'm not sure it's phony, Mark[1], but I do find it quite grating. It's
also completely pointless - the person you're replying to knows you're
talking to them, & they also know what their name is, so don't need to
    keep being reminded[2].

[1] I actually cringed while typing that.
[2] With the possible exception of Auvache.

I've not been commentating on this habit for *ages* but it makes me
twitch every time he does it. So I found a solution.

I'd use Oilite if I was replacing bushes because I know I can just buy
them off the shelf from BSL. Oilite is also harder wearing than
phosphor bronze and you don't run the risk of getting fobbed off with
    the wrong grade.

remembering tufnol, which is completely wrong.

Don't you? Can't say I'd noticed. Your annoying habit is no more
annoying that lots of other people's annoying habits.
    Yes, without any doubt whatsoever.

A response to Krusty regarding fitting in and the nature of the group.
Picking up on this because it's something I've been debating lately.
    [1]

The fact that 'it pleases you' is surely ill wishing in and off itself
and if you believe 'what goes around comes around' then surely you're
due a pay back for the ill wishing?

I'm not labelling it as karma - because that's something entirely
different which has a set meaning within a set of spiritual practices.
However this 'goes around, comes around', 'reap what you sow' idea is
a well established way of looking at the world. I'd like to think it
works that way but I've seen too many nasty pieces of work live
    charmed lives.

I'm still with Bill and Ted - 'be excellent to one another'. Now when
piss taking is concerned you have to ask if there is malice behind it?
95% of what looks like utter vitriol on here is nothing of the sort.
It really, really isn't appropriate in text with a hreaded news
    reader.
    Welcome to UKRM.
Well yes, but other people are here for different reasons and you
don't get to have your own way.
The FAQ is now available. have you gone and read the CBT?

It's the nature of the beast. Some days I hate it, I'd like to live by
You see it as picking holes, others see it differently. Who is to say
who has the right of it?
I've seen more patience and help given to you than many other newbies
over the 4 years I've been posting and the 8 years I've dipped in and
out of here. It's not as robust as it was.
And people keep telling you this - a lot of posters know and trust the
    others.
If Windy was still here she'd kick you.

    *I* don't need to do anything ... ;-)
