Sticky cable problem

    On the 9R.

When I got it a year ago I put bar raisers on it and sent off the
throttle cables to be rebuilt longer.

They've been great so far, but the other day I went to turn the 9R over
and noticed the throttle almost stays where you open it to, very stiff.

Last outing was to France and back (or was it a FOT?), and it was dry
all the way there and back.

Can't figure out why they've just gone all stiff.

As they were rebuilt they should have been reassembled properly and
lubricated? And they've been fine upto now.

Unfortunately the bar riser kit means that the "pull" cable doesn't
have a clear exit out of the throttle body and bends slightly, but it
is only slight, something I'd expect to wear through the cable in 5
    years, not 3 days.

I shall have to unmantle and investigate.

Start by removing the closing cable and see if
that makes it any better. If it doesn't then
chances are it's the opening cable or the grip
itself. If your cables are the same, try swapping
them over (at both ends!) and see what happens.

If in doubt replace. It's much less hassle than
    pissing around with oiling them.

Or even just try moving the cable around a little. I had the same prob with
the Zed when I fitted different bars and it turned out to be a *tiny*
routing issue, cured by simply moving the cable a small amount.

.... or, it could be sticking at the other end, in which case no amount
of fucking about with cables or twistgrip is going to make the slightest
    bit of difference.

That was the problem with the Elefant; drowning everything in WD-40
seemed to be enough to sort it out.

Well yes, but it's very unlikely that the throttle
bodies/carbs will be the problem as 99% of the time
    it's crap cables.
Which would be done after checking the obvious, for sure!

I had a similar issue with the Zephyr when I first got it.

The throttle side swich gear had a little pin which fits into a hole on
the bars. Mine was misaligned. A bit of tapping and jiggling sorted
    it.

Dunno if the 9R has a similar arrangement.

The Zed has that hole and pin thing, but I cut the pin thing off mine coz
the Jota bars don't have the hole.

    Dan L scribbled:
    It does.

I've already drilled a new hole to get the throttle/switch body
mounting at a different position as it used to exit almost into the new
bar extenders ("use with standard cables" my arse).

I may have to move it even further.
