Someone's got to carry the cost between the time the recovery people are
paid and the time the money is recovered. At the time the owner would
want their vehicle back there would be no way of knowing:
    - Whether or not the criminals would be caught
    - Whether or not they would be convicted
    - Whether or not it would be possible to recover the costs from them
    (excuse the pun)

So at the time the vehicle is recovered *someone* who is not the
    criminal has to cough up.
Well, if you can persuade the police that they should cough up in this
case- well done! When I had a break down and my car was recovered (30
minutes after it was parked on a grass verge; and totally ignoring the
request to call my mobile) I couldn't get through to the police (i.e.
they wouldn't put me through to someone in authority and calls were not
returned) and the clock was ticking... so I had to cough up.

    I don't think it's fair but that's not the point. I don't think anyone
but me should fund my ****-ups.
Ah, well this is the person rather than property so I've a different
attitude here. So, no, I wouldn't agree with this proposal.

It wasn't that bad a reply that you gave earlier. I would have commented
earlier but there was a particularly tasty piece of popcorn at the
bottom of the packet I was aiming for.

Yes, I get that, and I think that at this point it should come from the
police budget. This is hardly an unlimited source, so there would be a
need to increase the budget through general taxation, something with
which I have no problem. I feel that this is social issue, so it should
be one that is dealt with by society.
Where is the **** up on the part of the person who has had their car
stolen? A vehicle breaking down is one thing, having a car or bike
    stolen is rather different.
Ok, I can see that that's something different. How about a stolen
credit card? Do you think that the victim of the theft should pay the
bills, or do you think it should be down to the credit card company?

Well, I think we've better things to spend taxation on really.
Not securing your own property correctly is a bit of a **** up really.
And, yes, I've had vehicles stolen.
Well, the credit card company doesn't really have any money as such.

    Surely the police should pay?

  14. You want to try some of the links from the main page of that site - or
    perhaps you do not!

  15. Indeed not. The interwebthingy is already too stuffed with nutters and
scumbags for me to want actively to seek out more.
