Everyone's talking about how Ducati/Bridgestone have really moved
forward this year. But how much of this is due to the package being
comparatively better, and how much is due to the riders. While I think
Capirossi is a good rider, he doesn't seem to be doing much better on
the bike this year than last, it's only Stoner who is winning races.
And there's the matter of Bayliss guest-riding the bike and romping
    away with the win.

Could it be that Capirossi wasn't riding as well as we thought last
year, and the bike/tyre package was therefore better than everyone
    thought?

This is a straightforward, rather than rhetorical, question.

    You make some valid points.
Bayliss veni-vidi-vici was impressive, as is Stoner's performance this
    year.
Also, Rossi often praised his countryman, which may have caused the
    public to overestimate Capirossi's strength.

  3. Least Loris does not ride around for points, like last years *world*
[cough] champion, and roberts before too.I see a patten here forming
    re USA riders

Hopper is not like that, maybe becuase he has a bit of "anglo" in him?

    Cheers

Not how I saw it all all. I was just watching the season finale last night
and up to the point I finally fell asleep - about 8 laps top the end -
Hayden was pushing very hard, even though Rossi had hardly a chance.

So, tell us your Limeyness, who do you think is the best rider to hail from
Old Blighty? No fudging now, Oz guys aren't Limeys, but given the sad record
for racing on two wheels you guys have, I/we might even make exception for a
    half breed...

Mike Hailwood was voted the greatest motorcycle racer ever by the readers of
Spain's Motociclismo earlier this year. Wasn't it like the 25th anniversary
of his accident this year or something to that effect?

Hailwood versatility and longevity in racing is astounding, there's little
doubt that he had huge talent on a motorcycle.

  10. Undoubtedly. Watching him slot his Ducati around Adelaide's
speed-bowl while all the other competitors were braking for the corner was
    just amazing.

And the only time I saw Hailwood race was when he was driving a saloon
    car! :-(

I never saw Hailwood, (that I remember) but did see Sheene(got beat too) and
of course Foghorn. (really got beat) I liked Hodgy for his candor, if not
so much for his (lack of) success here, Ellison hasn't impressed me at all,
but I do hold out hope for that kid Davies. As far as any mixed guy's in the
modern era go, I'd take Hacking over Hopper any day, besides ability he's
got the hands down best lookin' Ole lady in the pits, it's just too bad he
started his racing career so late...
