It was obvious he had problems, but he likes to hang back & blat through.
Watched the race three times now, his tyres where cold & he knew it, so he
    fucked up in my eyes.

Shame, as he would have made the race a bit more interesting.

I assumed he was trying to get everyone to go past so he'd line up
last and have his tyres the warmest.

That is his usual MO, but from what I saw he was way off
line into turn 2, and right into all the dirt and rubber
left from the earlier racers. That and a cold tyre had
    him off.

It was explained later on the BBC red button thing.

Ducati's strategy was to take it very easy on the sighting lap to save
fuel so he could go balls out at the end of the race. That meant he
didn't give it any welly off the line and the rear tyre ended up
    relatively cold as a result.

Evidently the low track temperature caught people out too, such as
Lorenzo's moment in the first few laps. The Valencia GP is usually two
weeks earlier but it was moved back to make room for the Hungarian GP
    that didn't happen.

First time I've see Spies interviewed (or race for that matter) but he
came across as a really measured, articulate guy. And quick, which
implies that he can adapt well to different bikes.

With that manner and haircut though, he wouldn't have looked out of
place wearing a USMC lieutenant's uniform.

He always comes across as modest and calm, sometimes annoyingly so.

But let's not forget, Toseland did well in his first[1] MotoGP and had a
string of 6th places. So we'll need to wait longer to see if Spies lives
    up to the expectation.

    [1] I know it wasn't Spies' first.

On one hand, it'd be nice to see him do well. On the other, the yanks
will be insuferable if he does.

which is fine until you consider the amount of time both spent in WSB.
