Not as good as half a dozen eggs, inadequately padded, in a Krauser pannier.

  3. From Merkainia!!!

Just up the road from here in and around the Tiptree area is the VERY
BEST MICRO CLIMATE IN THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD for growing strawbs, only a
fool or a pretentious twat would buy strawbs grown elsewhere.

Strawbs and pretentious twat in the same sentence.
I think I'll put on a Rick Wakeman record. :)

.... or Tescos thereby adding global domination and megalomania to the list
    of adverse character attributes.

  6. To be an Englishman is to be born a part of global domination, are you
suggesting there is something wrong with being English?

  9. Tiptree is not renowned for it's date plantations. So much so that
Wilkinson's, the people who make the best strawberry jam in the world
and me and Her Maj both have a pot of Little Scarlet in the cupboard to
prove it, do not make a date one.

No, God forbid - but Tesco is headed by an Irishman who appears to have
subjugation of the rose of England as his aim, rather than subjugation of
the rest of the world on behalf of the mighty British Empire <cue fx: Land
of Hope and Glory, Tim Brooke-Taylor wearing Union Flag waistcoats, Noel
Coward's immortal performance in "In Which We Serve" etc.>

Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the
river cleaned out in a day.

Animals killed according to kosher regulations, are _supposed_ not to
suffer at all, as the brain is said to be drained of blood immediately.

    I'm sceptical on that one.

This is of course, rubbish, but you knew that. The more an animal
suffers, the more adrenaline is released which allegedly makes meat
    bitter.

There's little cruelty with veal, although I don't eat it. I think
neglect is closer to the truth here. Foie gras is simply divine and I
can't believe that the geese suffer. If they do it's worthwhile.
Hmm. afraid this is another one I don't agree with. Lately I've been
rejecting purchases on the basis of how far the foods travelled; and
then shipping what I've bought home in my sub-20mpg car.

I've heard it said that the geese voluntarily queue up to be force-fed,
but I suppose they can't associate the feeding with whatever pains or
    problems it causes them.

Well, I've heard it said too but I've also heard people who have been at
    foie gras farms deny this.

    Anyway, it tastes nice.

The geese can't complain as they are too polite to speak with their
    mouths full.

I do - I read it in the Independent.

And anyway, strawberries grown in the UK will most probably have spent
most of their time in a heated poly-tunnel anyway, so are not
    necessarily more 'green'.
