We get those here. In fact I've just chopped some into a bowl with
some cream and HD cookies and cream ice cream.

Oh, it's simply on the grounds that I like to feel I'm supporting my
local farming community and also on the basis that I don't think food
    travels well.
You missed the point about the sub-20mpg car...
Well... If I thought that my actions would do something here I'd say
"global warming" which ultimately threatens to melt the polar icecaps
etc. etc. After all I've got my children and their children to think
of... I suspect I *should* take a stand but when I fly most weeks and
drive/ride more than 600miles most weeks it's not really a defensible
    position.

Because they don't taste as good. That's my problem with cheap fruit.

  7. That seems awfully long. Is that including swanning around on the high
    seas looking for mermaids?

  8. I don't get this. Why don't you eat gruel for breakfast, lunch and
dinner? It'd fill you up and you don't need to taste anything.

  9. It's a version of 'home-grown tastes better', but in that case it's
generally true. The supermarket varieties have long since lost the
essential element of flavour in the quest for controlled-ripened,
    long-storage, visually-appealling pap.

The ex-wife and I did exactly the same... She'd have a pot boiling
away while I cut, topped 'n' tailled the sweetcorn and we'd pop it
straight in the pot... 30 secs from plant to pot... Never had
sweetcorn tasting sweeter... It were luverly...

Look for corn-fed chicken, I swear the corn makes a huge difference in

Oh God no. I'd insist that the supermarkets were clearer with labelling
though (this is cheap and crap, this is good) since unfortunately it's
not always convenient to shop at Waitrose.

Hmm... I'm in pretty good shape and my genetics are looking good (both
Grandfathers made mid-80s, Parents both mid 70s and active). I reckon
I've every chance of having a long life, well into my 90s and beyond.

So, my children spawn at say 35 and their's at 35 so that's 70 years
time but given my daughter's 18 that's 52 years from now, when I'm in my
    mid 90s. I reckon I'll see my great-grandchildren.
I wouldn't say I'm exactly worrying. But it's an interesting question.
I do feel a sense of 'duty' to my children which would extend to theirs.
    Not sure how to answer.

I think looking at my actions; I recycle, I avoid plastic bags (often
but not always), I buy local produce. But on the downside I drive/ride
too far to work and use fuel inefficient vehicles. I think my positive
actions are trying to salve my conscience.

  16. The fact that you seem to be making up stuff that I haven't posted..
    *Sigh*

Run away and play Ace. You seem to have lost any vestige of humour.

Quality isn't important in the mass market - which is why it's the mass
    market..

  18. Well yes - but the little bit I read about it mentioned about ofsetting
(aka this decades scam) so I suspect that you can balance it out by
planting a few tress and saving a few fluffy bunnies.
    Or something.

    Phil.

  19. Where is the "shouldn't" in all this? More accurately would be "it
would be better if you didn't".
The rest is up to your conscience[1]
Name me a country that doesn't use protectionism. Name me an industry
    that doesn't..

  20. One bad example doesn't ruin a whole genre. It's like saying all pop
music is crap because of the The Cheeky Twins..
