strawberries in a top box

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by mr p, Jul 16, 2007.

  1. Only when old stuff breaks/wears out (with the exeption of clothes -
and I tend to chose my sources fairly carefully).

And thinking about it white goods - no, stereo - no, car - no, bike -
no, TV - yes (old one blew up), microwave - no, shoes - yes (but
British hand made leather) etc etc etc.

It is possible to buy stuff responsibly and ethically and with a view
    to minimising your impact..

  2. <Proffers muesli>

It's close enough. Even with added dried fruit its revolting.

And since I've discovered that frosted wheats have less sugar in them
than 'healthy' muesli I've been able to go back to eating something
that I actually like the taste of rather than what the diabetes clinic
    recommended..

It was clearly phrased as a question, until you snipped the question
    mark.

I'll repeat it, seeing as you seem particularly hard of understanding
atm: Do you agree that there's no reason to suppose that just because
strawberries are UK-sourced doesn't make them any more or less likelt,
    per se, to be 'chemical-ridden'?

That's the one that always amuses me especially as some of the
analogue main TV transmitters are putting 1MW per channel into their
aerials usually dipoles with a 10dBi gain. Plenty of these are close
to housing, schools whatever and have been running for years.

  6. Yes (to a point - we make an effort not to buy stuff needlessly).
In your view maybe. I find most of your life empty, meaningless and
shallow but I don't feel the need to say so..

  7. If you like oats maybe.
Well quite. Which you signally seem to be unable to grasp with
    reference to other people!

  8. I don't believe I did but never mind..
Oi - that's my insult. I've copylefted it.
And reading my replies (if you actually do!) would have given you the
answer - for most countries - no. For some - yes.[1]

Unless you buy 'organic' (I hate that term - when was the last time you
saw mineral strawberries?) in which case the answer would be 'yes'.

    Phil.

[1] And the US is one of the culprits - a US Dept. of Agriculture study
found higher levels of pesticides and fertilisers in US fruit than in
    most imported fruit..

    Well I say that as a 'stakeholder' don't I? Old though I may be, I don't
personally remember the last ice age. If, and it's a very big if, you
believe the doom and gloom the *rate* of climate change brought about by
*this* global warming trend could be alarmingly rapid in geological time
terms. Rapid enough to impinge significantly on the way people live
    their lives within two generations.

OK. Do I care if ultimately homo sapiens becomes extinct? No. Do I care
if millions become homeless as a result of rising sea levels? Not as
much as I should. As I live on the top of a hill in a (currently)
temperate zone I don't even have to worry too much about my grand
    children.

"Lovelock strongly emphasised a concern for the planet in precedence of
us, to the extent that he quarrelled with Mother Teresa on this point
(Joseph, 1990). Lovelock's premise is that if we take care of the Earth,
humanity's problems will start to take care of themselves."

  11. And how about that *huge* radiation source in the sky? Somefink ourta
be done! It causes cancer an everyfink!

And it causes spots! Or has spots. Sounds unhygenic anyway.

  12. Wat is wrong with drinking meths, given current world shortage[1] of '69
Chablis what else would you expect me to drink?

[1] Although I am sure I read on the interweb that Chinese
schoolchildren are being paid 3p a day to produce it in large quantities
but that it hasn't yet reached the UK market.

Possibly, but few others profess to be Christians here. Of course, my
knowledge of your particular beliefs is lacking so it's possible that
"being nice" isn't part of the credo.

  18. As I've said before I'm no better than anyone else. I'm also mystified
why he took my comment so personally - to me it wasn't any worse than
him saying that my eco-habits were pointless!

Ho hum. I've still got a good deal to learn about human nature it
