Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker MP said: "Such material has no place
in our society but the advent of the internet has meant that this
material is more easily available and means existing controls are being
by-passed - we must move to tackle this."

    <sigh>
As we have no bill of rights and no absolute right to freedom of speech,
expression or political persuasion I guess there isn't anything they
    can't *actually* criminalise.

Mary Whitehouse will be waving from her grave.

Pity the honouable gentlemen doesn't put his own house in order. NW Police
    would be a good start.

If she was alive now she would be finding more fertile ground that she
did in the 60's and 70's

"It is already a crime to make or publish such images but proposed
legislation will outlaw possession of images such as "material featuring
violence that is, or appears to be, life-threatening or is likely to result
    in serious and disabling injury".

That's going to make owning any Hollywood action movies/vids "interesting".

Look on the bright side, Eastenders will be a whole lot shorter.

Evidently the guy was just a normal, well-adjusted bloke before he started
looking at dodgy porn on the net...

Classic bit of headline-grabbing. It will probably be quietly dropped once
there is no more mileage in it. Otherwise, if it is passed, it will then be
ignored like many other useless bits and pieces of legislation.

There's an assumption here that reading/watching violent porn
exacerbates rather than helps satiate the desires of someone
predisposed to sexual violence. I'd be interested to know if that's
    actually how it works.

Porn? I'm influenced by everything. The reason I crash so much is that
Sarah keep watching these real-life Casualty-style programmes - it's all
copycat binnings. Question Time and the like have rendered me incapable of
candour, and the news drives me into a frenzy. I've been in restraints for
the last month or so because of this Lebanon thing. Gulf War B was a big
    problem too:

And as for Top of The Pops...

  12. The Government is planning to criminalise material showing sexual
practices that it doesn't approve of, even if they're between
    consenting adults.

If you and your partner film or photograph yourselves doing something
the Government doesn't approve of, you could go to prison for three
    years.

Despite the impressions that the biased media reporting would brainwash
people into believing, it is not law yet and hasn't even been presented
to Parliament to make it law. Therefore it is not too late to do
everything you can to stop it. Put simply, if the proposals are made
law, if there is a picture on your computer that shows two people
engaging in an act that APPEAR to be life threatening or could lead to
serious injury, then you are in danger of being prosecuted and possibly
face a three years in jail. It is irrelevant that it is a picture of
people who have fully consented, have made themselves aware of all the
risks and taken all the safety precautions to minimise those risks.

A picture can only provide so much information and does not tell the
whole story. For instance, if a picture was taken of someone jumping
from the top of a high cliff, most people would agree that this image
would appear to show that person engaging in an act which is life
threatening. What the picture does not show is the fact that he has a
parachute on his back and that he has taken the necessary precautions
to minimise the risk by having received a long period of safety
training. The picture also does not show his experience and that he has
successfully completed over 500 jumps without injury.

A picture of BDSM play cannot put across the experience and safety
training that the participants have under their belts, nor can it show
the love, responsibility and respect that the participants have for
    each other.
