What is the appeal, can somebody please explain it to me?
I stubbied my Akrapovic for two reasons 1) it was way too long and stuck way out the back of the bike 2) the front edge was damaged when Shelly crashed her SV. I cut 5 inches off the front end and had Mark Hill at MHP finish it off and fit new bands. It looks more in proportion to the bike now, but needs a slightly smaller sticker. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3019/2450698860_c5d3e79ab6_b.jpg -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
Kinda. The bike I'm thinking of buying has one. I'm factoring the cost of a less wanky end-can in to the purchase price.
I love the look of them. I hate big early R1 style cans. ps. Oggy can you email me a tel. number? wouldn't mind a brief IT related chat, you probably "know".
Good idea, very few people like a wanky end-can. Got to be worth at least 200 quid off for the part and even more for the sheer embarrassment of riding the thing to a suitable de-wanking place.
I think the main idea behind this trend is that it concentrates the mass of the exhaust close to the "turning axis" of the bike (whatever that is). I don't know if/how said axis is related to the theoretical centre of gravity of the thing. To illustrate the point a bit better, imagine two rods of equal weight, with one being twice as long as the other. If you grab them by the middle and try to rotate them, the shorter one will be easier, despite having the same weight. Apart from that, I would assume that the concentration of all the exhaust bits in one place should have some weight-reducing benefits. It may be a bit weird at first but I think it looks cleaner than the more classic options (on the side/underseat). Geo
The stubby "Moto Maggot" can on the boy's VFR looks and sounds pretty fucking good, I reckon. http://www.flickr.com/photos/dan_l/2318879558/ -- Dan L Too much time to think, too little to do. http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 2002 Triumph Sprint RS 955i (COMING SOON) 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr (IT'S FOR SALE) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7/8) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11
I seriously like that bike. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
That's not what I'd call a stubby, that's a motogp-style megaphone. Lozzo's SV has what I'd call a stubby.
So do I, we both spent a lot of time and effort on it, so it's quite satisfying that it turned out so well. Silly sod let the MOT lapse this month and hasn't been arsed to get it tested yet. -- Dan L Too much time to think, too little to do. http://thebikeshed.spaces.live.com/ 2002 Triumph Sprint RS 955i (COMING SOON) 1996 Kawasaki ZR1100 Zephyr (IT'S FOR SALE) BOTAFOT #140 (KotL 2005/6/7/8) X-FOT#000 DIAABTCOD #26 BOMB#18 (slow) OMF#11
