I want to paint my hugger yellow. It's carbon hugger AFAICS. Do I need to
take any precautions or worse: can it be done at all?

I'd assume I need to sand it down a bit with some wet and dry, clean it with
thinner or somesuch, spraypaint it and then a few layers of lacquer.

    Anyone (dis)agree?

I did a little custom painting several years and another lifetime ago.
I would say that after the sanding and cleaning you need a couple of
coats of self etching primer. It's a primer with an acid in it that
allows it to grip on to the plastic much better. An ordinary primer
may peel off in the future, especially in such an enviroment as a
    hugger lives in.

When dry sand that off with soapy 1000 grade to get a good finish for
    the paint.

    HTH.
