Just perusing the diary and thinking about a summer trip on the bike.

A week/10 days including Aug Bank Holiday is looking like a possibility.

Looking at a map, there are two places in France I have been meaning to
visit for ages. The Gorges du Tarn
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorges_du_Tarn and the Verdon Gorge
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorge_du_Verdon

It's about 700 miles down to the latter from Calais, so easily done in 2
legs, although a couple of nights near Dijon/Beaune on the way down has
merit. Brownz recommends a place just north of Beaune. Using a Portsmouth
Le Havre crossing also has merit.

Tarn is in the Cevennes National Park and Massif Central, so loads of nice
roads to make a 3 day stay worthwhile.

Anyone else interested in such a trip? Email me as per sig if interested.
I'll set up a mailing list if there is enough interest to warrant such.

    looks fantastic.
very easily - 350 miles/day is pocket money mileage.
Le Havre is a fucking awful hole, even compared to Calais though.
    *tempted*

    +1.

My cousin (owner of the Longrow cask) lives near Ganges (southern end
of the Parc National des Cévennes) so I can ask her what else is worth
    seeing in the area.

  5. Aye, gis a shout nearer the time & I'll see if there's space at my mates
    place in Bargemon.

There's three spare double bedrooms, a pool & a lovely view.

Sounds nice. I'm planning on doing the Route Napoléon in June. All
    those canyons are stunning...

From May to September these 2 spots are full of cars, bus, campers,
trucks towing canoe-racks, etc. It is a real PITA.
Usually I just choose the Gorges de la Jonte via Meyrueis rather than
Gorges du Tarn, and try to pass between 1 to 3 pm.
You should try the D52 from Nasbinals to Le Monastier via Montgrousset
    Beautiful scenery

Thanks, I'll add it to the list
Anoyingly, Google maps doesn't label the D52 and your instructions produce
a route via the D900. Garmin Mapsource does list the D52 via Les Salces.
    Looks interesting.
