    Nice write-up. In August I also passed through Merano, and past Lana on
    my way up to the Mendel pass (west of Bolzano, very nize views of the
    valley). Out of Merano I was really struggling to find the right road; I
    never saw any Italian signposts with road numbers on them. The same
    again when I was about to leave Cortina. In my opinion, this was much
    worse than Swiss signposting.

    I found that it was easier to follow the names of places though, the Swiss
    ones would list towns 5 days away !

    Re the Ducati speedo cable breaking - it's easily done if, when
    removing/replacing the front wheel, you don't set the speedo drive so
    that the cable has a clear straight run out of it. It's very easy to put
    a kink in it.

    Not me guv'nor, wouldn't dirty my hands :)

    If it was tame mechanic it survived 3000 miles before it went , only 10ukp
    for a new one any way.
