Superbikes information needed

I have been tasked with setting a quiz on the subject of Superbikes (mainly
the bikes themselves, arther than the World Championships).

Did the Superbikes era begin with the world championships in 1988 or does it
go back further?

What sort of 'technical' information would you normally see or expect to
see in a quiz for Superbikes enthusiasts.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Well, if you're going back that far I'd add the H2 to the list.

I don't think that the early japanese bikes cut it as a 'superbike'.

 

Z1 is only 900cc

What about the CB750K?

 

What about the Brough Superior?

 

Memorable to say the least but dismissed by many at the time as a
'stinkwheel'.

I remember someone turning up with a Z1 at Mrs Kelly's (no kidding) camp
site on Pahnd Island with one in 73? (brain fade). It really did seem to
raise the stakes in a way no previous machine had - even more so than
the machine which allegedly prompted the coining of the term 'superbike'
(CB750 '69').
