That was the first bike that I considered a 'superbike' but the first
bikes that I used to keep going back to stare at through the shop
window were Triumph Bonnevills and Tridents.

I had a Yamaha YR5 brochure on my wall, until the RD400 came out. That
went in the bin when I first clapped eyes on a GS1000.

 

the first bike I ever fancied was an RD250LC (which, when I was 17,
was learner-legal in NI).

 

In England a 350 LC with 250 sidepanels was a popular learner bike,
until the cops learned how to count the discs.

Pretty much like an RD250 with an RD350 top end then.

 

I sold my RD200 to a chap who hadn't passed his test when the 125 law
came in so he did actually stick a 125 lump in, although he kept the
original side panels on. It was all above board so the when the cops
did finally stop him, he had all the relevant paperwork waiting for
them.

He must have been the only person to ever 'downsize' an RD
