That's the later series to my Sprint so none of the parts would've been
interchangeable even if it WASN'T rooted!

Well we all start somewhere.. and there are a couple of persons in
here who feel rather huge about these things...
Making a new one is often surprisingly cheap but these days doing so
or even finding a part that might fit let alone one that actually fits
can be challenging ...
Maybe just swapping to another front end might have been an option , if
nothing else the problems with parts highlight lack of certain things
with this brand and might even be relevant to many others ?

I don't really know why wreckers have email accounts and subscribe to those
Findapart type networks 'cause they don't seem to ever want to respond to
electronic requests.
I rang one Sydney wrecker up and quizzed him about some bits for my bike.
He said he had a couple of one part and definitely had one of the other so I
put all the details into an email (along with my address for the freight
etc) and sent it off.
Within 10 mins I got a "none in stock" reply.

There's nothing like actually being in the shop with a wallet in your hand
to get them interested.
