Best of luck. I *really* ought to try the Bezafibrate slow release
jobbies again. I'll start tomorrow. Got to go back to the quack to see
if the extra hypertension medication has worked soon anyway.

If it's simvastatin, beware. That shit made me miserable.

I've just ditched it after a year or so. I just found myself getting
angrier and angrier. Last week I punched a hole in a door! Not good.

That was when I dropped it and in just a week I feel a lot calmer.
    Google for statins and anger.

Well this is the relevant issue, there are several branded and generic
statins. If you don't get on with one talk to your Doc and try another, and
    another.

How long does it typically take for side effects to manifest themselves?
This is day 4 and all's well.

It was weeks in my case, it comes up gradually. I tried several, got pissed
that I never seemed to get the same type twice, and binned them.

days for some e.g. some people get the squits within 48 hours. Months for
other symptoms. Keep a diary, especially if you are on other meds for
    hypertension.

I've been taking 20mg of simvastatin for ages without any attributable side
effect. Unlike the cunting blood pressure meds.

It was a couple of weeks for me. The rub was I kept taking the shit as
the doctor didn't believe that the statin was causing the problem for
me. I finally told him to **** off and he changed the prescription.

What are you taking for the BP? I've been on hypertension meds for a
few years now with no ill effects.

Same here. Valsartan for years plus Amlodipine for the last month or so
without noticing anything significant. I'm often tired, but heh that's
what 60 decades can do to you.

I was taking co-tenidone (beta blocker, diuretic combo) for years and
putting up with a wheezy cough

NICE produced guidelines to say men my age should not be on beta
    blockers.

So, the fun began. 1st line choice was istin a calcium channel blocker.
Like my sister & mum, I developed bad oedema in my legs

Line 2: perindopril, ACE inhibitor. Developed a cough & angiodema in my
    throat. BP was fine.

Line 3 - losartan. No side effects but not enough oomph to do the job on
it's own. Alpha blocker added. Systolic BP under control. Diastolic
    persistently stickas around 95-100.

Line 4 - stick with losartan, resume beta blocker. BP pretty decent but
cough returns. Catch a cold, get a chest infection which is a bastard to
shift. Agree with GP that beta blockers not helping situation.

Line 5 - return to line 3, lower dose of alpha blocker at the moment.
Again systolic fine, diastolic around 95.

Of course, I could take more excercise, lose weight & cease drinking
booze. My GP is savvy enough to realise there is little chance of such
drastic lifestyle adjustments. GP has gone on 6 month sabbatical, so it
will be interesting to see if his cover goes down the patronising
lecture route or suggests an alteration to the meds.

    Blimey!

I started on Ramipril (ACE inhibitor) which worked sort of OK but not
quite enough, and rather than increase the dosage of that, I take
    Bendroflumithiazide (diuretic) as well now.

I specifically asked my quack not to put me on a diuretic when he said I
needed higher octane treatment last month. As Noddy Holder said on
'Genius' last night "men of a certain age."
