I have the luxury of living near a main road, so I can see how bad the
traffic is each morning before I head off into the city. Average time from
Balgowlah to Sydney CBD door to door is around 20-30minutes via motorcycle.
I've tried car, bus and ferry (no trains here) but nothing comes close to
the efficiency of a bike for getting from A to B. Looking at most of the
suckers stuck idle in traffic around me, I was just wondering how long it
takes everyone else and by what method.
You can do this for any city, I'd just like to get an idea of differences
    that different people/vehicles take.

Going to depend on how law abiding and risk taking you are...

If I'm going into town in anywhere near peak hour, I'll take the western
link and lanesplit like crazy. Definitely split the stationary traffic,
and sometimes moving. THere are riders who split a *lot* more moving
traffic than I do. But if there were say 10 riders doing it instead of
2, then I think it would be harder to do it safely as everyone dived for
the useful spots. (Any Poms want to chime in on this?)

Whereas on my run to work at Mona Vale, I seldom split. I might sometimes
nick up left or right turn lanes or up the painted medians to get to the
front, but it's not a regular thing. MInd you, I'm not doing it in the
real rush hour either, the few times I have come across heavy jams I've
split those in the usual way. And as I've been the only bike or one of
maybe 2 or 3, it's been easy. If even a 3rd of those drivers one-per-car
sitting in the traffic clued in and got a bike I dunno they'd do a lot
better than they do now! THey'd have to be a lot more awake though....

Takes me about 50 minutes to get from Campsie to Mona Vale if I leave
Campsie after 9:30. A bit longer if I take the McCarr's Creek Road
    twisties.

By train takes about 40 mins but I keep missing it and have to wait 30mins
for the next one so that makes it a loooong trip!
