I was averaging 20-25 minutes for the last 3-4 months, but the last 4 weeks
have been hell. I don't know where all these people come from but traffic
feels like it has doubled this month.
The day my bike was in getting serviced I took the bus. It took over an
    hour! Never again.

When you're making 20 minute trips, you can leave half that shit at home.
Helmet and gloves take 1 minute to put on. I can walk out the door at the
same time as the wife who drives and I'll pass her her at the first set of
lights less than 100m from our house.
Bikes only become inefficient for trips less than 3 minutes :)

  9. I'm lazy. I don't pedal. Also, haven't done it in a while, so I'm not 100%
sure how accurate those times are.

  10. I "leave for work" (start putting my leathers on) when my better-looking
half walks out the door. I pass her at the lights at Woodville road (the
first traffic lights I come to). I'm at work while she's still in the queue
    there.

At the work end, I get undressed (just taking the leathers off, no need to
get excited, I'm a computer programmer, not an underwear model) while my
computers are starting up. (Back in the DOS days, I wouldn't have had time
    to do that.)

  11. I'd _possibly_ use the car to get to work except that I have to pay to
park the car but can park the bike just around the corner for free.
Not a hard choice in the end ...

    Cheers

Sounds like you need one of those little petrol driven scooters.

  15. If you get one of them petrol scooter thingies, it'll still take you 7
    minutes. (They only go 25km/h.)

Bugger that, if I'm going to arrive at work hot and sweaty I'll save
myself 60 squillion dollars on a carbon fibre mountain bike* and walk
    to work.

Considered it and discarded it - if I've got to go to the trouble of
showering at work and getting changed out of joggers and etc into a
suit then it's all too hard.

    * Yes I know you can buy one for $10 out of the trading post, but I
know myself way to well to think there's much likelihood of me doing
    that

I used to do Picton to Villawood (Sydney) anywhere from 50 -90 minutes,
homeward trip in snow season was murder. Now I do bedroom to office via
kitchen for coffee in 60 seconds, telecommuting via satellite broadband is
soooo nice. With the time I save I can go for a ride in my lunch hour, ain't
    that a bitch :)
