  4. Oh good, there's an opening on the miserable pyromaniac front. I shall
    apply.
I'm thinking about getting one of those natural daylight lamps. Same
    as I do every year.

Pfft. We all have our little idiosyncrasies, and I find that the
addition of a simple pair of quotes often raises a post above the
    humdrum and casually offensive. YMMV.
I'll resist overusing it, in that case - just for you, PoshBoy.

  7. You don't need to spend an arm and leg on one. All you need is an office
ceiling fitting with four fluoros in it.

Or sit in a growing room. Some will know what I'm talking about.

  8. Fluoros aren't day light, thobbut.
    Heh. Yeah, that'd do it.

  10. If you fit the daylight ones, they are.

  13. Any electrical wholesaler has the two main tubes in stock - warm white
and daylight. Only a couple of quid.

Fwiw, I altered a ceiling fitting to hold eight daylight tubes in the
space for four; that's 320W of fluoros. It's effective and cost next to
    nothing.

It just hangs on the wall while I read next to it, same as you would do
    with a commercial lightbox.

Any idea what illumination level that is equivalent to? Conventional
light therapy advice for SAD is exposure to white light (not necessarily
full spectrum and safer without UV) at 10000 lux for at least 30 minutes
    a day in the morning.

SWMBO bought me a 'Litepod' for Xmas. This has the advantage of being
fairly small and easily portable and stands nicely next to my monitor
for those morning email and newsgroup reading sessions.

  15. All new tubes, approx 24000 lumens; dropping off with age by approx 20%
afair, after a year or so. The bugger is getting proper 40W tubes
nowadays, the 32W ones being more efficient in terms of lumens/watt but
    less overall output.
