read some design notes on the infamous ducati 916 series awhile ago and
there was an explanation as to why the designers opted for the single sided
swing arm, and believe it or not their intention was to do endurance
racing - to which i bursted out laughing. of course the designer didn't want
to succumbed to the fact that it was a rip-off of the hondas at the time.

 

does anyone know if this will be replayed on foxtel?

It never has been before so I very much doubt it will this time.
(SBS showed it once or twice back in it's
Doohan/Beattie/Gardner/Rainey/Schwantz hey-day but now that it's just a
Japanese domestic race there's little international interest.)

funny that! how do you "rip-off" someone's design when development#1 was
a callobration?? mind you the single sided swingarm did make the 916
look trick. so were the underseat mufflers and i suppose ducati came up
with that brilliant idea too (ie. the combos - of course bear in mind
that the honda nr already sported these features).

hey hatz, what does the new aprilia mille's front end looks like? i
don't see you jumping up and down accusing aprilia of copying the MV's
styling??
