    What was the best:

    TS185 ER or DT175

    XL500 or XT500

    GT250X7 RD250LC

The RG500 was better than the RD tho..

    DT, I'd say.
Definitely the XT, no question. BTW, the XL was a Honda, not a Suzuki.
Their DR370 (IIRC) was pretty good, but still not as good as the XT.
What a bloody stupid question. The X7 was only slightly quicker than
the air-cooled RDs, so nowhere near the LC.

    Without a doubt.
Absolutely. The XR500 was the best though.
SP370 (it was shit) followed by DR400 (also shit).
    Indeed.

I'd say I'm very keen on the DRZ400 supermotard with a stage II
modified engine I tried recently. Not for travelling, but wonderful in
    twisty roads.

I liked my SP370, it was a quite useful (for its day) off road bike and as
such gave me many hours of fun on the greenlanes and mountains of north
    Wales.

It was followed by the SP400 then the DR400

Well maybe, except for the one four-stroke mentioned, the XT, which
was the definitive big trailie of its day, to which nothing else came
    close for several years.

Then again, I was always a Yam fan back in the '70s, and Suzukis were,
    therefore, all shit.

Clearly. I remember when the GS750 came along thinking that maybe they
weren't so shit after all, but it wasn't until I got the gixxer (or
more accurately untilo I rode yours) that I was finally convinced.

The RD500 was a major let down in it's day. It promised so much pre
launch. Everyone wanted a proper road going TZ. Was this something to do
with the Superbike mag TZ750 article!

I bet the ZX10 now is as good, better even. They were 157kg and the best
    config. made 140bhp

The mechanic at the bike shop I used to work part-time at raced one.
When I asked what it was like to ride he said "It's got the power of a
very highly tuned Z1000 in a chassis that weighs the same as a Z200 with
    handling to match"

It's actually a TZ700, but the 750 top end fits with no modification to
the cases, and you can flog the 700 barrels/heads to two RD350LC owners
    [1]

[1] Yes, they do fit straight on.

I'm sure you could afford it[1], you just don't want to spend that sort
    of dosh on an ornament.

[1] Meaning you could raise the necessary through a
    loan/remortgage/sale of existing toys.
