    Hi All,

I have just about finished rebuilding my X7 which I purchased in boxes.

The old girl is an absolute **** to start cold but runs perfect when hot.
From cold it will fire ocassionally and then eventually start but only run
for a couple of seconds before stopping. If I manage to get the revs high
enough I can keep her running but she is constantly cutting out. If you keep
doing this eventually she is warm and then starts and runs fine.

    Any suggestions gratefully received

You seem to be confusing an inanimate collection of bits of metal,
plastic and rubber with a living being. Once you get this sorted out
in your head you'll be well on your way to sorting it.

Oh, and it sounds like the mixture's too weak, the choke isn't working
properly or the plugs are the wrong type.

Did you accidentally swap the float bowls round when cleaning the carbs?
There is only a choke fuel supply jet in _one_ of them. It took me *weeks*
    to find this out.

  7. Perhaps she just needs sitting down for a bit of a heart-to-heart? She's
obviously a sensitive sort so have you just tried giving her a hug? Perhaps
she feels a little threatened by your masculinity and would appreciate
seeing a glimpse of your gentler side?

Either that or make sure the carb's jets are clean, the mixture's correct,
and you've got the correct, properly gapped, plugs in the bitch.

Crank seals? Sniff the engine oil and see if it smells of petrol.

  15. Wonderful you've got it sorted, but next time, please read the FFAQ and
pay close attention to the posting style bit, especially the top/bottom
    posting non-debate.

Oooh, missed that one. TOG's trying to out-do YTC#1, it would seem.

Bury it somewhere you'll forget and buy an RD250 instead. X7s were shite

Nooo!. RDs fetch *far* too much money these days. X7s do indeed have a well
deserved rep for being 'a little fragile' if tuned, and cranks are nearly
considered a soddin service item, but they are soooo much fun. They don't
stop or handle well in anywhere near standard form, but Christ can they
shift for an old 250. I think even KR1s are more reliable too.
