I'm looking for a more "interesting" exhaust for my sv650 and I notice
on ebay people list cans for "R6 CBR YZF ZXR Ninja SV650 SV 650"

Does one can really fit all these bikes(with appropriate link pipe) or
would it be wise to buy one specially designed for the bike?

I notice also than none of the aftermarket cans have the "shoulder" that
    the original has.

dunno if its the same on the 650 but my mate bought some 'Carbon Can Co'
    Cans for his SV1000
They just pulled a box from the shelf, no markings on it saying specifically
for the SV and they were fine.
He tried others but found them too long.

I wasn't thinking of anything really loud, and it must be "road legal"
It's just that I'd like the car drivers to be able to hear me a little
    sooner

    Hear hear.

I sourced a standard Bandit 600 silencer from eBay to replace the race
can fitted to the used bike I bought. I also bought a road legal Quill
T3 for my Gixer because I really do hate race cans that much.

Why only London, isn't the same true for any city? We have pedestrians
    in Bristol too you know

    Ditto.

I took the race cans off my TL and put the stock cans back on. The
stock cans do sound a bit farty, but the race cans were way, way too
loud and still sounded farty anyway.

My Tuono came with a stock can on it. This sounds lovely - about as
loud as I'd be comfortable with. I'm actually mildly surprised that
    it's legal.

    Same here

When the OEM zorst on the Zephyr failed I replaced it with a 4 into 1 loud
    pipe.

Too conspicuous for my tastes, and the Zephyr's swingarm is not a thing of
beauty and is best hidden behind chrome tailpipes. Also, living in a semi
rural area it was a bit worrying when encountering horses on the road.

Sourced a new complete stock system, and returned it to how Mr Kawasaki
    intended.

Mind you, the race pipe I fitted to my old CB500 was extremely antisocial,
but I sold the bike before the novelty had worn off.
