    Guys

The voltage regulator on my sv650 has died. A genuine part is around $200.
Is there a generic regulator which is cheaper that I can fit to the bike?
It's a three wire input from the generator and two wires out to the battery.

What other bikes have three in, two out regulators that can be bought new
    relatively cheaply?

    thanks.

there used to be such regulators...often sold by wreckers, never by the
    'original' shops

the 5 wire reg/rec is probably the most common of all, and pretty much
any will fit any other...so grab some crimp terminals and go for it!

My auto elec put a early model holden regulator ($25 new) on my gpz900r. Its
been working now for about 2 years.
I keep it under the seat.

    My advice would be:

    1. Check your bike's spec for max. generator output (amps or watts)
    2. Find a Suzi from a similar year which
    a. has the same rating or higher
    b. was popular and lobbed a lot.
    3. Ask around the wreckerses.

Odds are it'll have the same plugs that way ... and be pretty cheap.
Failing that, just about anything will work if you find out which
wire is which. Honda ones are generally red (+ve out), green (ground)
and three yellow phases (interchangeable), some have an extra black
wire which I think is voltage sense. From memory. It'd be wise
to test before hooking it all up.
