Hi all, I just changed the coolant on my 99 sv650s. When I drained out the
coolant, it had a small amount shiny bits of metal in it. Is this normal?
Also, I noticed an unconnected two pin connector on the right hand side of
the bike. It was in a rubber cover with two other connectors that were
connected. What is this loose connection? I didn't see any other loose
wire to plug into it. Is a diagnostic socket?

    thanks.

    Hi,
    Dont worry about the metal.
Especially if this is the first time the coolant has been drained.

RE the connector with the 2 loose wires.
Its a simple modification for a bit more power.
The wires come from a switch in the gearbox and connect to the ECU.
Generally its to signal the ECU when the bike is in first gear.
The ECU changes the ignition timing for less engine power and more torque
for a first gear standing start.
    But...
One of the noise pollution tests (USA EPA?) is to ride past a microphone at
100Kph with the throttle wide open. (something like that).
The manufacturer could stick a very restrictive muffler on the bike or have
the switch in the gearbox signal the ECU for 2nd and 3rd gears as well.
The change in the ignition timing takes the edge off the exhaust note = pass
    the test.
Some one has unplugged the wires for the 2nd and 3rd gear signals.
