SYD: Urgent. have you been hit by an unlicenced driver?

Does anyone know of a rider who has been hit by an unlicensed driver?

    This is urgent.

After seeing many lightweight sentences handed to people, we asked to
be involved in sentencing of driver offenders, particularly where it
involved motorcycles. We need someone to give their views to the court
process in sentencing a young offender.

    Tomorrow.
    At Miller, near Liverpool.

The NSW Government is trialling a program where some young adult (18 to
24 years) offenders are able to participate in a conference involving
victims of crime, support people and other relevant people prior to or
as part of sentencing. At the conference, the offender learns about the
impact of their behaviour and all participants develop a Plan designed
to repair harm to the victim and the community and reduce the offender's
    likelihood of re-offending.

I am currently preparing a conference for a young driving offender (drive
while disqualified), who has an appalling driving history and has hardly
held a licence, and has been caught driving while disqualified numerous
times. Having said this, he has not been involved in any accidents, holds
a CAMS racing licence and thinks of himself as a good driver. I am hoping
to be able to contact someone who has either been injured themselves by
a non-licensed driver, or who has been a non-licensed driver and caused
injury/damage to someone else, so that they could speak personally from
the perspective of what can happen, and what the consequences can be.

The person would attend the conference (at this stage it is scheduled for
next Wednesday 25/10/06 at 5:30pm at Miller, just outside of Liverpool).
The conference duration is approximately 2-2.5hours. During the
conference they would be asked to speak to the whole group about their
story - the affects of this sort of behaviour on themselves and others in
the community. They would also participate in generating ideas and the
discussion of the Outcome Plan (to repair harm to the victim/community
and reduce the likelihood of re-offending).

I would contact, and either meet with the participant, or talk through
on the phone, the conference process beforehand, and this would take
    about 20 minutes.

    Cheers,
    Kirsten.

Ah, good plan....person hasn;t been involved in any accident, but you
need to tell him how bad it would be if he were.

In NSW, you can be disqualified for farting out of turn, but they want
    you to take it seriously!

And we only get to read of the iced-up, no-hoper, jobless,
aimless, illiterate hoons taking a joyride late at night from some city
entertainment hotspot to somewhere way out west, leading cops on highspeed
    chases, just for kicks.

Just counsel the person to get a damn licence then it won;t be an appalling
driving record of being caught without a licence.

    Scene: city intersection....

    Rider (on ground) : " %&& that hurt! Oh...you have a drivers
    licence...OK... I feel better now..."

Ummm.. "unlicenced driving" is a type of behaviour which has an effect
on the community ?.. like what... causing more congestion?

thats for unregistered vehicle (ie no green slip) but there is coverage for
    such events.

drivers are not insured, vehicles are.

Yes, which is a problem really, worthy of a whole 'nother discussion.

The "nominal defendant" payouts come from a pool every CTP payer pays
    for.

Of course that's going to happen no matter which system is used.

Darn, forgot to renew my drivers insurance this year.

Who do I call to get a quote without being laughed at?

My vehicle's insurance is still valid if the car is stolen and wrecked by an
unlicensed driver. Likewise if a 3rd party or person is injured...still
    valid.

Which is fine but that is another discussion entirely. They want a
disqualified driver to hear victim statement accounts from a victim of
unlicenced driving, as if "unlicenced driving" in itself is a
contributor to accidents, which of course it is not, as indeed the facts
    of this specific case demonstrate.
