Did we all enjoy the Sydney Bike Show?

This was my first bike show, Fiona and I had a great time - caught up with
    some old friends.

I was a bit disappointed at the accessories on offer. I'd been saving my
pennies for a whole bunch of shite with the idea of getting it all at the
show and maybe even saving a bit. Instead the bigger displays (Cassons MCA
and Rivet) had all sorts of pretty looking stuff - with screw all actually
for sale. "If you want to buy it you need to go to a bike shop" No shit
Sherlock - I don't need a bike show till jockey to tell me that. Rivet had
some of last years crappy jackets and pants on offer (with the armour
removed) <!> - but bugger all range and no sizes to suit my little wife.
Moto-one had pretty much their entire range on sale and they were doing a
roaring trade. Got the missus some damn nice leather suede pants. Good on
    them.

So it's off to MCA or somewhere another weekend to get my saddlebags, jacket
for the missus, pinlock visor for my new helmet (glad I didn't wait till the
show to get the new helmet!) and other gumpf.

I guess I was expecting the accessories to be a bit like the Caravan,
Camping and 4WD show at Rosehill. Completely hammer the credit card and hope
like hell you can lug all the tonnes of gear back to the car and fit it in.

Good to see so many people standing around the Triumph stand - especially
those eyeing the new Rocket III. Every time I passed the Triumph stand there
was a decent size crowd around it. Go team! The new Thruxton is nice.

Sat on a Strom and contemplated my earlier decision not to buy one in favour
of my beloved little Trumpy. ("But why can't I have two bikes?" - I get
_the_ look from she who must be obeyed.)

    Cheers all,

    Drew.

  3. Market research conducted over the last 5 years shows your average bike
show visitor has about 40 bucks in their pocket when they get through
the door. You are one of the very rare ones that come to buy - probably
about 5% do. Maybe the whole 5% were at teh Moto one stand ???? Are we
seeing a change in the buying behaviour of motorcyclists?

Im surprised to hear that Cassons wouldnt sell directly to you, they
import their own gear - ie Cassons ARE RJAYS.
Rivet - dont know much about rivet, it could be that you saw the actual
brand name owners or the importers and they probably have legal
agreements that prohibit them from selling direct to public. Their choice.
Again look at the research... you turn up to one of those, you are in
the market for a campervan. As a result of a bike show, bike sales
increase. Accessories sales usually increase about 2 months
afterwards... if they remember you, or if you offer a deal on
accessories at the time of purchase of the bike. If you think about it,
the new shiney expensive bikes leave an impression, the pants and
jackets are an accessory... nice but not maybe necessary.
Id love to feel what 2.3l of angry triple can do to about 250kg of
    bike... jeeezus !
Work on the garage extension first mate - then say all this extra space
is wasted and must be filled with worthy stablemates. :p

Im waiting for it come to melbourne... should be good to see all the
pretty candy. I for one will only have about 40 bucks in my pocket :-(

Go easy on that credit card tiger !!!!!

    0-100 in 2 seconds courtesy of 140BHP and 147 lbs/ft of torque.

Interesting that you should say that.

Generally shows are NOT cheaper than you could negoiate at a retail
store. I was at the Caravan, Camping and 4WD Show working for an
    electronics company.

People come expecting a 'show deal' and buy at the 'special show
price'. Most have not done their homework.
At the 2003 Camping show I was looking for a 4 man dome tent. All the
major tent retailers were there and all but one had prices higher than
    regular retail.

  7. dont you mean 240 bhp... my Zed apparently releases around 155 - 160 bhp
as it is now.... that torque figure looks real exciting though

  8. Wow!

    Marginally better than a 1980s Z13!

The Z1300 made 120bhp and only put out 11.8 kg/ft. The Rocket III puts out
    66.7 kg/ft.

    Torque the torque?

  10. Nice attempt at a conversion there. 11.8 kgm not kg/ft.

No wonder I fucked up. LOL.
I'm looking at it thinking "that's a little small"

    Gimme a 'D'

    Gimme a 'O'

    Gimme a 'H'

    What does it spell?

    So let's try this again.

    Z1300 = 85.35 lbs/ft / 11.8kg/m
    Rocket III = 147 lbs/ft / 20.32kg/m

    That's alot better

It's an amazing bit of kit, I sat on it and it was surprisingly lighter
than I expected, it's big but it doesn't feel nearly as bulky as a
    number of "smaller" cruisers
Even the "don't like naked bikes" girlfriend like the Thruxton !

  15. These things happen. Have you seen the V12 made from two 13s?

Was that from that pommy bastard?
Apparently he's got a few other projects like the Twin cylinder CT110 or
    something like that.

    The guy is a riot!

Like you, I was very disappointed with the accessories available to purchase
    at the show.
I went with the intention of buying a new riding kit all the gear to replace
my last kit that did not survive it's very own road test (I will need
everything) but found only the one distributor who was either willing or
able to sell, Moto One. Again, like you, I bough from them. However, they
did not have all that I wanted so I left empty handed (and I had bought
along the family to use as pack horses) and will now need to find somewhere
else to spend my dollars, although I am also in the market for a bike so my
'bargaining' power may not be to bad.

  19. Loved the show (Sunday), didn't love the parking situation, but the most
dissappointing thing, like everyone else has said already, is the range of
accessories on offer at the show, like the distributor for Alpinestars/Shoei
(Monza Imports, I think do both) didn't bother showing up.......... For a
person like me after a new jacket, and stockist's like MCA in Sydney, who
don't hold the entire range, what would be the best place to be??? The
    Sydney Motorcycle Show, dddddddeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.............

For the distributors who didn't show up, give yourselfs a uppercut!!!

  20. 140 would be about right I'd think, it's the torque that's going to
    launch it :)

I'll tell you what they are like to ride when my mate's bike arrives
in September (or whenever the bloody thing manages to get to Tas).

    Cheers
