Sydney Bike Show

  1. They already do, to the tune of around 5000 bucks for the stand, 4 days
of standing around and keeping an eye on the remaining 80% who are there
putting their dirty paws all over the stock, ruining it, or outright
stealing it. Thats not meant to be derogatory, but everytime a person
paws or tries on a jacket or something, about 10 percent of them have
dirty hands -- in the end around 40% of your stock is trashed from an expo.

Furthermore they are all there with the intention of driving a hard
bargain. If you think of the 5000 cost of the display spread over 100
suits or jackets, thats 50 bucks they need to recover per suit / jacket
    - to make it a break even situation. On the flip side your there
expecting to get these brand names for around 100 less than the
shops.... sound correct? The research shows it.

System I understand your dissapointment mate but theres economics
involved in it. Furthermore if these importers have distribution
agreements in place with shops that preclude them from selling direct to
the public, which I think Monza do, then being there is a complete waste
    of fuckng time.

If Monza have precluded themselves from direct sales to the public, then
even if every second dude was there to buy a jacket, they would only end
up being sued by a cranky distributor. For every jacket monza sells at
the show, its one less thats sold in the shops that are their life line.
Imagine what would happen to them if say a large shop turned around and
said **** Alpine stars... and kicked the shit out of the door since its
on consignment and they dont really own it...... ?????

Still I understand your dissapointment mate I really do. BVR waves his
hand at System: these are not the accessories your looking for, move
    back to the bikes

    :p

  2. cool kev, we are all interested to see what its like. Al set me straight
on the hp figure - but shit I reckon with a bit of tweaking... okay
maybe a lot of tweaking... 240 bhp would be possible with it anyway...
    what a ride :p

    X-No-archive: yes
    Yep that's him.
    He's also done a V8 Z900 and a 5 cylinder Mach111.
My favourite is the little V2 Honda though.

I rode up from Canberra with a couple of friends and enjoyed the show. A
    ZZR250, CBR250RR and a CX500.

I think we got ripped off on parking. The ad said $12 dedicated motorcycle
parking. All we found was the Entertainment Carpark, where we shared a
single car space and got charged $17 each. Parking for less than 3 hours
    cost more than the show!

It wasn't until we were leaving that we saw other bikes ride around the boom
gates on the exit and the other bikes parked under the overpass for free.

    I'll know next time.

  12. Nah, Pat. He mated a Z13 with a CBX1000, that would give you 2300, but a
    weird cooling system.

Errrr, you'd be looking for the Exhibition Centre Car Park. It's got big
signs and says "Exhibition Centre" one way and "Entertainment Centre" the
other way. Ok, so perhaps it was too easy to get confused. It was there
though, I saw all the bikes in the sectioned off area.

Or is it that people go the first time with a wad of cash in their back
pocket, then next time they know no one will sell to them so they don't
bother? The first time I went I was keen for some buying then utterly
dissapointed once I got there. This time I didn't bother going shopping as I
knew no one would be selling anything. The show still has a lot to answer
for, from distrubutors to manufacturers. They should be throwing us a bone
    or too.

  15. I agree Cam, your probably right though.... and theres some bones
needed...suggest that maybe some of these big suppliers show some
love....but dont look at me !!! a show stand would cost me more money
than I have - which would leave nothing for stock......and - read my
other posts on how damaged stock can get....so many variables...bleh...
    had enough...time for my medication

The one display copy which must have been fingered through by 500 people is fucked and I will not even give it away.
    I'll take it..

  18. Good on you dave and good luck with it. It does help if you can pair or
triple up, but pick your partners wisely... one with lots of bling bling
will see you simply supporting their endeavour. Either that or you get
smart and out bling bling them :p

    It's ready now ;-) [1]

Question is whether I should try to get it done between now and then and
risk having it off the road at wintersun time..

[1] the only thing making it unusable at this moment is the result of my
ham-fisted attempt to change the oil filter on sunday. Damaged a metal
shim that is essential if lubrication is to occur. I'll pick up another
in the morning and rectify it.
