"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

That doesn't look like an Atheist statement surely it's an Agnostic one?

Oh, I dunno - I quite like the idea. In fact, only apathy has stopped
    me from being exceedingly rich:

At the last census, about 7 million people put "no religion". I reckon
there's a great untapped market there. All I need is a TV front man
for my "No Religion" er...religion and then get him persuade people to
send in, say, a tenner. Even if we only get a 10% uptake, it's a tidy
    sum.

    Who's in?

True, but they had to use "probably" so that the ad got approved by the
    ASA.

Hmm. An athesist is one who says "there is no evidence to support the
existence of god". He generally doesn't say (if he thinks about it),
"there is no god", as that would be a faith position (there may be a
god, it's just that we've no evidence for it). So "there's probably
no god" is good enough for me.

What you've just described is agnosticism, surely?

  12. No - agnostics say "I don't know whether there is a God". From the
Greek Gnosis (knowledge). With the 'a' prefix to indicate the lack of..

Atheists run the whole gamut from Champs position to the "There is no
God" position which (as Champ pointed out) is the less intelligent end
    of the spectrum..

I'd imagine the atheist position would be "There are no gods."

Does that mean that religious ads would have to say "probably" too?

The entire concept of faith is pretty stupid which ever way you look
    at it.

....and on a religious note, do you know if you're over at Christmas
    yet?

I'm with the late Carl Sagan. Agnosticism is the only logical position
    to adopt (to date).
