Was just out in the garden when I heard a droning sound.
The missus is at work, so I knew it wasn't her.

Looked up and there was a *huge* US WW2 bomber flew
overhead accompanied by a smaller fighter. I've just
had a quick Google and it looks like it was a B17.

I did wonder why, but then realised what the date was!

Luckily I was hanging the washing out so I waved a pair
of the wife's white knickers just to be on the safe side.

  4. That'll be "Sally B" then, as I think it's the only airworthy B17 in
    Europe. http://www.sallyb.org.uk/

We were reminded of todays date by a new radio staton oop 'ere in
Manchester. "Classic Rock" it's called and apart from having no boybands or
slush music, just GREAT music they have a great line in adverts for the
    stations.

    Today it was...

"It's the 4th of July today, the anniversary of the Independence of America
    and we're celebrating by doing........

    SOD all".

You just KNEW he wanted to say "**** all" and he meant it too.

Sally B is U/S with engine problems and it's not the FrogFort neither.

It's Liberty Belle, a US based B17 over here for a commerorative tour.

I wonder if the Jerries are maintaining the last operational Heinkel 111
somewhere in Hunland. What would happen if they sent it over Blighty
just for a lark -- prolly give some WW2 vets quite a turn.

I was on a Fordair[1] flight to Cologne on the anniversary of the D-Day
landings, and suggested to the Captain that they should have painted
black-n-white stripes under the wings "For old times sake".

After a short delay, the penny dropped and he started laughing so hard I
thought he was going to have a heart-attack.

As we come in on finals to the airport, rather than the usual bland spiel
over the tannoy, he put on a very Biggles voice and said "Captain to crew,
tally-ho, I have the target in my sights..."

[1] Ford runs it's own scheduled airline service between the UK, Germany
and Spain. In those days it was with One 11's, since with MD87's and now
    RJ100's.
