Left it in the sun all day yesterday with the filler cap open and it's
now completely dry. Listening carefully. I can't hear anything sloshing
    inside the tank.

That's a trap for young players that is. The water isn't
gone, it's just dehydrated. You go putting petrol in
that tank now, and the water will re-hydrate again and
clog up the carbies and lines just as before.

Dunno about the classic GPZ 900 but on my old Z750 you have to
pull the clutch in the enable the starter to work so maybe the
prob is in that area .

That's what the litre bottle of metho I have is for. The remaining vapour.
It's going in first and getting throughly sloshed about the whole tank
to take up any water and then the tank will be fully filled with fresh fuel.

The amount of water that was in the tank couldn't all be vapour,
some or most of it had to escape out the top of the tank with the hot
air as it rose to the top.

When I checked the tank it was at 11 at night and it was cool.
That much water vapour should have recondensed back to liquid
once the tank cooled down. It was clearly audible when tilting the tank.
There would have been close to a litre at least in there. When I checked it,
I couldn't hear a thing even with my ear to the tank. So there's either a small
cloud floating in the tank or most of it actually dried out.

    Way to go, GB.

Who would have thought you would catch anything at all with that tatty
    bit of bait. Novel, though.

  11. Seen it on a Roadrunner cartoon once, so it must be true. Acme dehydrated
    water, just add water.

Works it's way down to the shaft, and then it's
    pretty much all over.

And don't you think for a moment that I don't
    appreciate it my friend!

Read somewhere (on "teh intarweb", so it must be true)
(actually in column 8 I think) that there's a mob here
in sydney that sells dehydrated mineral water, no kidding.
Apparently half of these pricks flogging 'mineral water'
just buy this powder of a bunch of good minerals and
mix it with filtered tap water.

Can't say I'm surprised. No bloody way someone doing
the quantities that Coca Cola (aka 'Franklin') do is
getting the water out of a hole in the ground up
    bush somewhere.

    Oh. Right.

I read somewhere that tampons on a stick are good for getting the last bit
    of moisture out.

As a matter of interest, one of their filling points around here was a
fairly ordinary pipe attached to a suburban school fence that was fed from
an underground stream, the original above-ground path of which can still be
    followed through the suburbs today...
