Just a note on this... if someone is braking correctly.. you wouldn't expect
to see any braking marks on the road would you? A mark on the road would
usually be a sign of low efficiency or incorrect braking wouldn't it?

    Copy/ paste
    NetRider post today/ Thursday

***Yesterday the Hobart Ulysees club took a ride to Strathgordon in the
South West. Local media reports an accident resulting in the death of a
rider. The road was closed for four hours. Nasty stuff. Anyone on here know
    more about it? ***

    Finally caught up with everyone.
Incl. someone who was at the scene.
Happened about 20km out of Maydena (towards Strathgordon).
Rider known as non-competitive, non-aggro, riding an FJ12 in good to very
good tech. nick. Used to live in Melbourne.
Slightly ahead of the second/ slower group, no other vehicle involved.
Nobody saw it happen directly, from the evidence there was no attempt of the
rider having even tried to lean the bike into the lefthander, no marks
whatsoever on the road indicating attempt at braking or dropping the bike
before impact into the bank (rock-cutting). According to all indicators, the
bike nearly made it to the top of the bank before sliding back onto the
road. Rider was dead at the time his following riding-mates got to the
    scene.

It's treated as suspicious and there will be an autopsy (possible
heart-attack or similar before the accident).

Farewell brother and keep that throttle wide-open up there...

The rider involved in the fatal accident on Reefton Spur on Saturday left a
long example of his survival instinct on the road. Strangely though, the skid
mark finished quite a long way from where he and his 954 hit the embankment.
In any case I won't conject here, that's for the coroner to sort out. I am
surprised the police haven't contacted me for a statement. I thought they
would have contacted everyone on their list of people at the scene sooner,
rather than later, when memories would have faded.

According to police and rest of the group the trajectory/ point of impact
indicated a STRAIGHT line without any attempt to "make the bend".
I imagine, if that was brake-failure of both rear/front systems no marks
would show, being still "in control" of the vehicle (as in conciously) and
the unlikelyness of BOTH systems failing simultaneously with an impact
immediately ahead, anyone would STOMP the anchors, right or wrong, newbie or
old hand, it's just survival-instinct taking over...

  5. Much as it's always a sad thing, I can't think of anything I'd rather be
doing at the time (well, ok, maybe one thing).

Cops don't give a shit. About anything. Ever. Doubly
so if it means paperwork for them.

    I'm surprised that you're surprised.

  9. If they contact you, you might say something other than "He was speeding
officer. Clearly we need more speed cameras!"

Nev, give it atleast 6 months before ya get a phone call, probably should
write down something for your self to remember, sign and date it, so its
admissable in court, not that it matters in corroners matters, anything
    goes.

I did write something down, not that I have much worth telling them anyhow. I
know they did take written statements on the day from those riders identified
    as having something worth telling.
