Probably in better hands than in the hands of the Yanks, though.

Ford are seriously broke, with very little cash to plough into
developing new models. They've shot their load with the XF (and even
that hasn't turned out quite as sharp looking as it could have been -
they had to trade looks for economy around the front end) and appear not
to have a pot to piss in when it came to replacing the hopelessly
    outdated X-Type.

Tata appear to have shit loads of cash to throw at Jaguar / Land Rover,
so at least they now look to have a better future than punting out Ford
    parts-bin specials.

That happened when Jaguar started selling a diesel front-wheel-drive
    made by Ford.

Oh don't get me wrong, I've never owned a Jag. It's the Landy that caught
    my attention.

And Jaguar estate cars - what the ****? You pension-cahns or posh cunts
can call them shooting brakes all you like, they're fucking estate cars.

Now that I like - I've seen that car before and the sheer stupidity of
it appeals greatly. Only the septics could have been dumb enough to
think a V12 5.3 litre engine would pull a dead merkin to his final
    resting place.

I was this -><- close to sticking a deposit down on an XK a few months
    back.

I eventually convinced myself it was too spendy.

Jag helped by making the lease deal very unattractive.

Well I'm not going to India to set the bloody computers systems up.
I had enough of that shit when Phoenix/BMW & Ford were all partying
    together!

I tend to use the definition, however approximate, that if it's based on a
    two-door, it's a shooting-brake, but if it's based on a four-door, it's a
station wagon. The Lynx Eventer, for instance, was a shooting-brake.

Your definition of a shooting brake is technically correct, but posh
people tended to use the same ambiguous term to describe their Volvo
estates. Lynx Eventers were a very limited number of handbuilt cars for
the very rich based on an XJS - I've worked on a couple. Jaguar do not
make estate cars, Sir William Lyons would be turning in his grave at
    the very thought.

It was a legitimate business decision. The X-Type sold better as a Jag
than it would have done as a Ford Granada. But you can only sell your
    virginity once.

Was it the end of the world when LR was sold to the Germans? Was it the end
of the world when both marques ended up with the Yanks?

    Racist ****.

I can just see Phil the Greek pulling open the glove box in one of
    Brenda's official cars and exclaiming:

"Ged! It looks like it was wired up by a bleddy Indian!"

But the X-Type is the size of a Mondeo. No surprise, 'cos it's just a
Mondeo in fancy clothes with an inflated price-tag.

Are you thinking of the S-Type? - which, as I recall, is a development
of the Yank Tank that was a development of the Scorpio?
