I've watched the fist two episodes but been a bit disappointed so far.

I was thinking it was going to be more along the lines of "A <insert
vehicle here> is born", but it appears to have been dumbed down, quite a
    lot.

I'll keep watching it a bit longer and try to reset my expectations
    lower/fewer.

I had no expectations but have enjoyed it so far, personally I'd never
heard of the bloke and was sure all through the first episode that he
must be related to Christopher Eccleston!

    Simon Wilson spoke:
This has been done to death on UKRW - it's *not* the boat that Guy *built*
but rather the boat that guy *fitted out* - it's entertainment, and has
about as much relevance to building a canal boat as Top Gear has to driving
    a family cage.

Treat it as such, and it is a fine way to while away 1/2 hour on a
    Wednesday Evening.

You were expecting a bit too much, after all, it's long before the
    watershed.
He's made a reasonable first of it so far.

  6. Tbh, I expected to see him rebuilding an NB from the ground up, but the
direction it's taken is just as entertaining.
Few dodgy moments with Guy and Mavis regarding the bunking arrangements.

In that case, you might try Mark Williams presenting Industrial
    Revelations:

Top stuff, very enjoyable, very eductional. Learn how much you owe the
    industrial frozen norf.

I think he's the best and most natural history program presenter ever in the
history of the world. "Industrial revelations", "More Industrial
Revelations" and "Mark Williams on the rails" were all fucking brilliant.
    There is that too.

And the mattress he made at the factory was *far* too big to fit where it
was supposed to fit. Some editing went on there.

It's his mixture of genuine enthusiasm and childlike wonder, combined
with what appears to be a genuine knowledge of the subject. He's a
great presenter: he makes me laugh, and what he says sticks because of
    that.

My thoughts exactly. I like the out-takes at the end of each episode too,
coz they tend to show just how much he's really "into" the whole thing.

    [Mark Williams]
I saw him loading a blast furnace last night. Tipped half the load in,
staggered back, tipped a bit more in, tottered away. Threw the rest of
the lumps in from some distance. "It're a bit 'ot in theer".

I never knew about the "Grand Trunk" canal system, which linked the
Mersey, Humber, Thames and Severn, either.
