Just seen my local spanner monkey about somehting else, but he mentioned
he's getting loads of TD5's with holed pistons, mainly down to injectors
falling to bits. He says if the fuel consumption & smoke start, dont delay.

Td5 Land Rover engine, 5 pot 2.5 turbo diesel, like all Land rover engines,
it has it's problems & they seem to have just started to get worse..

Plus ca change. My old IIA was the most unreliable car I've ever owned
    (& I've owned a couple of 80s Alfas). I was thinking of getting a
Freelander last year, but thankfully did lots of googling first. Jesus
    wept.

A colleague has literally just turned up in his new-to-him 57-plate
Disco 3 TdV6, chuffed to bits. Any scare stories I can bait him with?

Mine was one of the better of that era and the only vehicle that I've
ever made a profit on. Bought for £1800 and sold 2 years and many
    miles later for £2400.
I am not sure I could be persuaded to buy another modern one mind.

Freelanders are utter shit, D2's are OK, D1's last forever if you catch the
    rust.

Modern stuff is fucking impressive, but still not Japoanese.

Had one of them, it went back.

Failure to start at every verse end, air suspension problems, squeeling
    parking brake.

Quite slow & thirsty, gearbox can implode.

The best of the lot, a full body off for a £1.90 belt change at 100k :(

The Range Rover i replaced it with was a much better vehicle.

    @news.eternal-september.org:

Lofty (Tom Watt the actor) bought a Freelander when they came out, just
after he bought mum's spare cottage. It spent weeks & weeks in the garage
either because it broke or it needed yet another recall.

I thought it would've been the "spare cottage" thing that got the
    response.

Is it time to mention Rober Plant's a **** again?
