My bike has had a few ignition issues, cutting out and no spark. I am
convinced it is a poor connection or the coil.

Some one on the forum who believes all faults are the fuel pump is trying
to suggest that if the pump fails, it cuts the power to the ignition.

    Sounds daft to me.

    Opinions ?

PS. I am carrying a spare fuel pump.

My old old friend Geoff Prentice[1] has a Pegaso that has had a fuel
pump failure[2], which left him stranded in Norway. It's not unheard of
for them to fail on Pegasos.

[2] I do believe it is a Yamaha part

But did the FP, cause the ignition circuit to fail ?

Do you remember that test ride you had on the Tenere when we were in
France? That'd be the one when you decided it was the ideal bike for
the trip then changed your mind and went for the Pegaso....

Yeah, I know the reg/rec failed on mine but they're easy to replace by
the side of the road so it's not really a big deal.

I'd still say it is, but the final decision was that if Jean needed to
ride my bike she needed to be able to touch the floor. Also taking 2
bikes the same means I could get away with 1 set of spares.

I will probably get an XT in the future.

I'd have made the same decision but that's not really what you want to
hear. I reckon that you'll have sorted out any issues by the time you
get out of Mexico and from there onwards you'll be ok.
We'll see if I still think they've got the potential to be a good bike
for harsh conditions by the middle of February next year. I'll either
be keeping mine for another couple of years or selling it when I get
    home.

Sounds daft to me, in fact I'd suggest that if things worked the other way
round (ignition failure causes a stop of the fuel pump) it's be a safety
feature coz there'd be less chance of a fire etc. Just my opinion mind.

That's what relays are for innit? When some plonker at a VW dealer hard
wired the FI pump circuit on my Alfa with a scotchlock connector to
'prove the relay was faulty' he forgot to take it off again. Cue petrol
being pumped round at full pressure even when the motor wasn't running
or being started. Turned out not to be the relay at all, but a 'burnt'
multi-pin connector (Italian electrics don't you love 'em). <Glances
    nervously at Aprilia>

It seems to be 50/50, and my bike is the bad half of the duo :-(
