Would a bivvi bag count and how impressed is 'seriously impressed'?

I've used a single skin bivvi on mountains before and not suffered
from the cold and it's not as if I'm going to be taking a lot of kit
    with me.

I assumed "drunken railwaymen, catherine wheels" was describing a single
phenomenon, along the lines of the "cartwheeling, pissing railwayman"

You've done hard shit survival army type stuff - surely that makes you
    ideal elephant material?

Over 180 Earth pounds. Ok, maybe not obscene, but for a two-man
non-geodesic that's only going to get used once or twice a year it's a
    lot.

  9. When doing the sub-zero camping thing I found an air mattress with foam
mattress under it worked wonderfully. Problem with air mattresses is
heat loss through air convection, which the foam mattress slows right
    down.

Another useful thing for any form of camping is an air pillow - a wine
bag is great for this; you obviously carry it full and empty it of
    useless contents before sleeping.

  10. I've still got one o' them. 'kin excellent and useable even though it's
25 years old, although the inner got a bit fragile a while back.

He's also large and grey, with wrinkled skin. I wonder if he comes in
    pints.

What I'm thinking about is ways of coping with a sloping site. The basic
dossbag/thermarest model is fine on the level, but, on any sort of slope,
you tend to finish up in a heap at the lower end of the tent. It would
therefore be preferable to have a level sleeping platform. In the absence
of some form of adjustable stretcher/camp bed arrangement, this could be
achieved with a levelled-out heap of gubbins and objets trouvées, with an
airbed to take the curse off the bumps, or with a graduated set of inflated
bags, or possibly a heap of straw. This last would definitely require a bag
of some sort to stop it dispersing throughout the tent.
I've been thinking about pillows too.

    No.
I'm not, repeat, not, getting into any form of qualification process
regarding my level of 'impressedness'. It's liable to end up with me
sitting in a field in Germany, in January, freezing me nads off.

  19. Depends on what you have inside. If you mean just for sleeping in, all
the tent needs to do is keep the wind and snow off while inside you're
wrapped in dossroll, space blanket, air mattress + karrimat as posted
above. With that lot on, nobody gets cold, and a cheapy tent would do
    just fine.
