I have rather a lot on in the next couple of days but I'd like to try and get
on my bike as well. So how does a FOF work - basically we all turn up and you
lot ride off into the distance?
I have tyres to scrub in on a bike that I'm not used to, with intense power
and slow handling (compared to my NC30).

    *gulp* and yet *grin*

something like that but as I'm not used to the bike I doubt I'll be
    disapearing anything other than backwards.
I more or less know where the FOF goes and I'm sure darsy can remind
    me in the morning.

I have tyres to scrub in on a bike that I am used to, but with enough
power to make your bike feel like an NC30. How could it possibly go
    wrong?

Eh? Has a FOF ever gone the same way twice?

Forecast is for pissing rain til 10 then cloud and for a 10.30 meeting
I'll have to leave about 9.30 so I'll check here before then to see if
    anyone's out to play.

Okay. It would be good to know the route as I'd rather concentrate on not
    crashing than on keeping up[1].

    [1] What a poof I am.

South Mimms: London Colney: Colney Heath: Sandbridge: Wheathamstead
and then ramdomly towards Welwyn/Hitchen/Hertford and ultimately to
    High Beach.

still very drizzly here at the moment.

I'll see what it's like in an hour or so, and I'll confirm if I'm
going to bother turning up by 09:00.

Cleared up over here. Not exactly spring like, but fair to ride in.

    darsy wibbled...
    Wet and misty here.

I'll give it a miss. If the sun comes out later on I'll go out for a
play but right now I have a better offer.

I need to put some miles on the bike anyway, still drizzly here. I'll
prolly turn up anyway but will check between 9 & 30 to see if I'll be
    there alone.

    "KTM says no".

I've just been out for a 15 mile bimble, and have made several
    observations:

Firstly, I'm waaay too out of practice to do a ride-out with others at
the moment - I've lost all confidence in my ability to go around
corners. Partly this is because the 'tard's steering geometry is weird
anyway, and partly because I know there's a new tyre on the back, with
a wheel fitted by me and Andy. But mostly it's 'cos I'm just so crap.

Secondly, and the deal breaker, is that the dodgy side-stand return
spring has finally snapped, meaning the that stand keeps sagging down,
and if you don't hold it up with your foot (which is a right pain) the
bike stalls. I'll try and fix this later this morning, and maybe just
do another bimble over to High Beech later.

But sorry, don't expect me at South Mimms.

I bet you broke it yourself just to give you an excuse.

I don't know the FOF area well enough to lead a ride and nor does Adie,
so we'll be in at the Horse & Jockey in Aylesbury between 10.30 and 11
for a FOT instead, if anyone else was thinking of coming out to play.

    I know - it's fucking pitiful.
heh, no. Bonwick can confirm it was looking dodgy last weekend. I will
try and fix it today or tomorrow, because I'm at least 80% convinced I
want to go to the BOSM next weekend.

Not just wet but cold too.

A few days ago I decided summer was here and took the thermal lining out
of my textiles. Big mistake. By the time I got to Aylesbury my fingers
were stinging. Got there to find Adie sheltering under a canopy at the
H&J grumbling that they were closed til 12 and she needed a coffee.

So, in a new record for a FOT [1] the first leg lasted 12 miles to
Winslow, at which point we parked up and settled in Jennie's Tea Room
for an hour. I've never actually been in a proper tea room before - it
was all I could do not to drunkenly demand the finest wines available to
humanity - "We've gone on a ride out. By mistake!"

So, 160 miles done, I still don't particularly like these Diablo Corsas
but at least they're scrubbed in. Hopefully I'll bond with them a little
more on the way to the Black Horse next week.

Kudos to the nutjob in the souped-up AMG somethingorother on the M1/A41.
That was some pretty enthusiastic driving given the conditions. It was
only when I started to leave him behind I remembereed he was probably
limited to 155mph and I was on brand new tyres in the pissing rain.
Still, it's not as if I had a child as a pillion...

[1] Apart from the one with Champ and darsy where we didn't bother with
the route at all but simply fucked off to Fox's for a coffee instead.

thanks for making the effort to come out and play. I got home just in
    time to see Villa score.

ride home was far better conditions and I started to get on with the
    bike more.

now starting to warm up with a bowl of soup and a mug of tea. bike is
    still on the drive.
