Is there some sound security rationale, or merely another attempt at
seeing just how much shit passengers are willing to accept, for
connecting passengers being led out of the controlled arrivals area, so
that they can walk 5 yards through an uncontrolled space[1] just so that
they can spend half an hour in a queue[2] to go through security
screening to enter the controlled departure space?

    [1]Ditching all liquids of course[3]
[2]Thanks to the utterly shit conveyor system that moves the trays
around but seems to be jammed more often than it is functional.
[3]These would be the liquids that were provided on the previous flight.
Does that mean that an duty free purchases would also be ditched?

Because in the UK we accept anything with only the merest grumble, and if
you were to complain you'd get whisked off under some anti terrorist
    legislation I'd think :)

It's not just T5 though. I was somewhere else recently, can't remember
where[1]. Same story, off one flight, onto another but having to go
through security/x-ray/frisk/shoes, belt, everything off/anal probe etc.
I didn't have any liquids but noticed they all had to be dumped. So I've
no idea what happens to stuff you may have bought on the plane.

    [1] remembered. Hong Kong[2]
[2] The old airport was much more fun.

It's the same at nearly all international hubs. Reason being that
security requirements for ongoing international flights may be more,
in some cases _musch_ more, severe than those carried out at the
originating airport. For example we flew back from Turkey (with Air
Turkey) last week, and were able to take fag lighters and liquids on
the plane, and god knows what else, so clearly had we been connecting
to an ongoing flight in Basel, or aywhere else, would not be in
compliance with the new carrier's requirements.

Higgy should try Atlanta. In effect you go through two airports with
the entire fucking process twice. It's a complete ****.

why sell a product to someone once, when you can make a rule that allows you
to sell the same product to them many times over?

    **** knows
YES, which why when you buy duty free now the vendor should[1] ask is
the destination on your boarding pass the final destination. So as an
example coming back from Indonesia I got my duty free in the 2.5 hour
    HK layover.

[1] TBF I have been asked the last few times, but since I know someone
in airport security I also know that a number of people are still
getting their spirits etc chucked away.

For me it's been SOP for a couple of years at least not to buy duty free
until the last leg, for precisely this reason. It's the same in a lot of
places. Fortunately the last leg usually starts in some European airport
with a good choice of Scotch.
Hell yes! I flew out of Kai Tak the day before it closed. *Sniff*

That was a domestic flight. Its like a bus. They did have all of my belts
etc when I went to see the folks off at Antalya, just to get into the
airport. Not even to air side. It was all very amusing as my huge baggy
shorts went south under the evil influence of gravity.

Well the first one was, yes, but I was referring to the Istanbul-Basel
    flight as well.
Yeah, they had scannners set up at the entrance to Dalaman (domestic
terminal) as well. No difference if you're travelling, of course, but
just to get into the check=in area does seem a bit odd.
    Heh.
