Test ride

I'm new here, so first of all hello everyone :0)

I was wondering, what's the chance of me getting a test ride from a
dealer if I have points on my licence? I've already been turned down
by one. Is that going to be the standard response?

    Thanks

  2. How many points, and what for?

Three point for speeding - nobody'll mind. A hatful, for dangerous
driving, and they might raise an eyebrow.

    Hello back!
Would you let me ride your bike if I had points?

  4. Most of ukrm have stained license, I'd guess.

Clean here, though I did overdo it past a camera van on the A1 this
morning, so that may be about to change...

Although now I know the bindit has 5 gears[1] this is a distinct
    possibility.

[1] I was frankly a little underwhelmed when I took the bindit out for
    a ride yesterday.

You know how it is, you hear things said about bikes and you make
assumptions based on that. The bindit comes with a reasonable
reputation for quickness so you can imagine that I was more than
disappointed to find it doing barely a ton five and fast running out of
red line to play with. I reckon a ton ten max under those circumstances.

Today it is a different story though. I was actually on me way to Adies
to take it back as being too slow and to say no to it. Then, as I was
chugging along searching around for a neutral to play with, I discovered
it has a 5 speed box. Of course this makes all the difference dunnit,
my license and me are now making firm plans to go our separate ways in
    the near future.

Like someone just said, it depends what the points are for.
It *also* depends on things like:
Do they think you are likely to buy a bike from them if they let you ride it
anyway? Otherwise even with a clean licence they'll likely be reluctant.
    (and)
Have you evidence of enough skill to wobble it round the block without
hitting too many solid things - "Here's my CBT slip, bring out the
Highabuser" may find you sat on the pavement once they stop laughing at you.

    Eh? I thought 600s had a 6-speed box?

And that's what it says in the manual, as well. Am I missing something?

Steve is being, well, Steve. It's a 6-speed box, no mistake, but 6th is
more of an overdrive. Use 5th for getting up to about 125, then 6th to
keep it there - it otherwise runs out of puff at about 105 in top.

Ho yuss. It does appear to have 6 gears.

I think I might go for a little midnight ride. I may be some while.

Take the fun out of it why don't you.
No it doesn't, it goes as fast as it is going to go in top just as well
as 5th. Trust me on this.

While I may not be as inclined to sling it round the twisty bits as fast
as some of you lot my lack of mass and slim aerodynamic[1] shape means i
can do better acceleration and top speed that many others and, given the
opportunity, I am not afraid to do it either.

Well, perhaps the bang on the head when last I got off my 600 affected
my memory; certainly acceleration at the top end was better in 5th than
    6th.
It's true I could still stand to shed a stone or three, although I think
I'm succeeding at the moment. It's also true that I was far more
    willing to throw the 600 around and thrash it than I am the 1200;
possibly because there's more chance of losing it with the 1200's extra
    power.
