    a) make sure you have appropriate insurance against theft by a test
rider, with an agreed value - excess >= the asking price.
    b) do whatever your insurance requires you to do in order to be able
to make a claim in case of theft by a test rider.
    c) if it gets pinched, claim ...

And added to point 2 below, rush inside to the internet to see the
rego number shows up on the stolen car register.

Well, it was all academic. Advert in the local rag for 3 days.....not a
single enquiry. Guess I'm putting it in storage instead.

I have done it both ways buying and selling, I have left a deposit being the
full asking price of the bike and I have asked people to leave the same, I
have never had a problem with real buyers doing this. This also does stop
    joy riders and wankers.

This could mean many things. Motorcycle buyers don't look where you're
advertising. Motorcycle buyers do look there but don't want to buy what
you're selling. Motorcycle buyers do look there and do want to buy
what you're selling but don't want to pay what you're asking. I'd
suggest changing one or more of the variables, ie the price or the
advertising location. You'll probably get a better response from one of
the big websites (bikepoint.. bikesales.. trading post) where you have a
much wider audience. Just because you're selling it locally doesn't
mean someone won't want to come from somewhere else to buy it.

Or if it's an NAB loan that at least 80% of it has to be paid out in
bank cheques .. to someone other than the person who takes the loan
    out :)

So far, it's been on bikesales.com (where it still is), in the trading
post, in the local paper in Hervey Bay (where I was before) and now in
the local rag here in Bundaberg. Out of all that, I got one enquiry in
    total. That was from bikesales.

Hah! That is easily foiled. Credit cards are much easier to get than
loans. You apply for credit card with a [combined] limit of the
value of the loan you want. You get a cash advance of the the whole
credit card limit. You draw down the loan and have them make the cheque
payable to the institution which gave you the credit cards. (But
don't tell anyone I told you that, ok)

I asked how much ya wanted for it .. so that's 2 .. but yeah I heard
about it at work so I guess it's irrelevant anyway.
