    On topic for once.

I've burnt through [1] a small bit of my Hein Gericke Voyager goretex
trousers. The gore tex shell is intact, and it's just the outer that
has roughly a one inch hole.

Can this be repaired - if so, any recommendations?

    Ta

    [1] touched against a hot exhaust/downpipe for a few miles before i
    realised.

Don't worry about it dude. I did the same thing to the lower inside leg
of mine on My Baby's CG two years back. It left a hole the size of a
50p and a circle of charred to buggery around it but it simply hasn't
    been an issue.

you can get self-adhesive fabric; you can /possibly/ get vaguely
    waterproof self-adhesive fabric.

Yeah, the iron on stuff right? The only problem is that I'll probably end
up ironing the pieve of fabric to the inner goretex lining. It doesn't
really have to be waterproof to be honest - its on the back of the calf
area, so won't get that wet. Or maybe I'll just leave it - its been like
    this for ages.

Try a camping shop. You can get repair patches & glue for fixing holes
    in tents etc.

I'd do it anyway, for no other reason than to stop the current hole
snagging on something and ripping itself bigger. What I'd do to avoid
ironing the outside to the inside, is cut a but about twice as big as
you need, then mask off the middle of it with non-sticky fabric, then
    iron it on.

How about cutting a piece to the same shape as the hole but 10mm
bigger all round - then slipping it in through the hole (iron-sticky
face *outward*), flattening it out and ensuring overlap all round -
then iron on the larger patch from outside? No accidental stickings
that way and a reinforced repair to boot.

    Yes, good idea.

    What I'd do to avoid
I'll try that and see how it goes.

Heh, since you did that (feet back on the pillion pegs of a Blackbird on
a French motorway, IIRC), I've managed to do much the same to my HG
    Voyagers, too.

Better still, I did it whilst "posing" outside HG in Slough.

Haven't fixed it yet, either and equally doesn't seem to be a problem
'cept I occasionally catch the hole on the footpeg, like...

Posing outside HG...that's bad. But in Slough.....argh
The only reason I wanted to repair the hols cos I was worried about catching
it and making it bigger. I saw some "stick on" tent repair waterproof stuff
in Blacks - but it comes in every colour except black. Then my mum dug out
some normal iron on stuff - it went on fine, but the stick isn't very good
so she sewed it in place. The repair is ok and should stop it catching and
    ripping.

My mum used to give me things like that to sew up for her.
